I had the game in my Steam wishlist and forgot to remove it. Someone purchased it for me yesterday. I decided to give it a go.
After 4 hours of playing, I find the game to be incredibly bland. Even if the game didn’t have the woke stuff in it, I don’t think I’d be compelled to play it much further than I have.
I completed one lengthy side quest called “Bad Blood” which you pick up fairly early on in the game. It’s basically the Botchling quest from the Witcher 3 with some minor changes and not nearly as memorable. There’s a bunch of “go here, fetch that” stuff which leads you across the map. The payoff itself is uninteresting and feels like it ends abruptly.
I then started and completed another side quest called “Lackey” which involved getting a drunk out of a tree that is surrounded by wolves, and then painstakingly carrying him across the map as he falls out of a tree, injuring himself. The quest itself was annoying and slow. The dialogue in this game is really uninteresting to me so far, and the banter seems really forced between characters. Your movement speed is impeded while you carry this guy to a point on the map… only to do another fetch quest for him once you reach your destination.
The first game had so many bombastic set pieces out of the gate. Despite being a janky mess, it was charming. I have a very powerful computer and I’m pleased to say the game runs well and looks great, but I don’t even want to play it anymore. I’m bored. The open world is huge and empty.
Combat is passable but it’s also surprisingly scarce unless you go and start fights. Everyone you fight suddenly wants to surrender which disengages your combat HUD, giving you the opportunity to speak with them. I’ve had numerous bullshit deaths because some idiot will drop to his knees in surrender only to miraculously kip up and kill the player character. I can tell this isn’t an intended function of the game.
Tl;dr - game is pretty underwhelming. Even without all of the gay and black shit, probably isn’t worth your time or money unless you like monotony
