We only did WW2 once during the autmn of grade 7 and that was it, holocaust was barely mentioned during the general world events portion and the main focus was on our nations history during WW2, i.e how horribly the soviets raped Eastern Europe, how our volunteer Waffen SS division did nothing wrong and anti soviet resistance movements.

Which was an executive order restricting fossil fuel exports out of Louisiana. Biden thought he was appointing a commission to study the issue, when actuality the order was an outright restriction.
It's probably the latter. From what my younger family members tell me it sounds like rote memorization of what's been written in a big textbook is like 99% of history class nowadays. That works alright for short-term memory but when you stop needing to take tests those details will gradually slip from your mind entirely.

The education system in America is deeply flawed and this goes for all subjects. Math for example doesn’t provide any real world examples when it comes to the teaching process. I use multiplication daily for my job, and teaching children why this specific profession might need these specific formulas would be helpful for memorization, yet it’s not taught to them this way. Remove the real world application and to the kids you’re just teaching them a bunch of useless nonsense.
