Isolationists are never actually isolationist. It’s always the US they want to stay out of foreign affairs, while countries like China and Russia get free rein. It’s akin to being an anarchist for how out of touch with reality it is. Neocons and neolibs are only slightly better, because they at least have a foreign policy stance that doesn’t just involve being bullied by third worlders, no matter how misguided they are. You need someone that will actually intervene, and who can negotiate in terms that don’t involve bombing civilians. This is what Trump is, and people that are naive enough to think he’s an isolationist haven’t paid attention at all to his first term. One of the only times the US was ever “isolationist” was between the world wars, and even then, massive military aid was given to Europe throughout the 1930s, in addition to maintaining an army of its own.
The die is cast. The best defense he has now is staying on the offensive and continuing to dry up the enemy funds. They can try to kill him, but they don't have their shield of plausible deniability without slush funds.
