@Brain Power @Gravemind I made a mistake with my post earlier and linked the wrong version so I deleted it, but there is an executable version of Rondo of Blood for PC that works well https://archive.org/details/rondo-of-blood.-7z

I'm not positive if this is the same one I used to play it before, but it still works. An issue I had with it though was that the keybinds weren't accurate from the launcher, it says F1 to change controls and I had use F3 or F4 but other than that the rest of the config is very straightforward in the launcher for it.

Rumor: New Castlevania AAA in development, announcement slated for 2025​


It's been over 10 years since the release of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (2014), the last major game in Konami's beloved series.

In recent years, Netflix has kept the franchise alive through animated series, but when it comes to video games, Konami has left the property dormant. However, that may soon change.

Geekinout.pt has learned from sources with knowledge of Konami's plans that a new Castlevania AAA game is in development and will be officially announced in 2025.

Who's developing the new Castlevania?​

It is not clear, for now, which studio is developing this new game of the Castlevania saga. In the past, Konami has collaborated with Spanish studio MercurySteam, producers of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and the sequel.

We know, based on previous information, that Mercury Steam is developing two unannounced games. One is a black fantasy RPG published by 505 Games. From the other game, we know nothing, which leaves open the possibility of being the new Castlevania.

Despite the extended absence in video games, Castlevania remains one of Konami's most valuable properties, alongside Metal Gear and Silent Hill. With the publisher reviving classic franchises, as we've seen with Silent Hill 2 Remake, it wouldn't be surprising that 2025 would finally mark Castlevania's return to video games.
If it's true, what the fuck are they thinking with making it AAA, the best selling one was Lords of Shadow and it didn't even reach 2 million units sold.

So, I saw a pretty good video on "What would justify a remake for SOTN?", its pretty good, through since it lacks english subtitle, I dont think most of you guys would understand it.

He talks on some stuff that could be improved, like more animation frames (lots of enemies, including some bosses basically got none), a new dub that is closer to the japanese text (the PSN one still got lots of differences), a more balanced gameplay (lets admit, its really easy and while I dont think it should go like some balance mods that outright remove the power of some stuff like the Shield Rod, it could use some challenge), music from other games to complement the 2nd castle so it wont reuse Final Tocatta and Marble Gallery 5 times, and a better plataforming on the second castle.

He also talks on some minor stuff like extra dialog that Koji confirmed they planned, but didnt done, like an explanation of Lisa being of a holy lineage to explain why Alucard can use holy weapons. But in the end, he admited that if you only do this, theres no much reason for a remake, and just a regular remaster, or even just a port for the few plataforms it lack could be enough.

And I kinda agree, the game aged well, and I dont really thrust Konami to not fuck over it somehow. Sure a better balanced remake with extra content (like including the Saturn and PSX version as a bonus) would be amazing, but not in this universe. Its like how in the ideal world Rockstar would remake the PS2 GTA games from ground up, but we know they wont do it.

 
If you "fix" SotN the game loses all its appeal.

The game is broken and janky beyond salvation. I can't remember any other game with the same shield mechanics, an inverted map for the second half, or any of the other stupid shit SotN has. If you take all this mess away the game loses all its personality.

The fun of the game is to one-tap every boss in 2 seconds and to fly your bat throughout the level ignoring all the shitty mobs. SotN is a good game because it's bad. The gameplay and mechanics don't make any goddamn sense but the music and art are phenomenal so nobody cares. Ironically, by fixing the game you would be ruining it.
 
Can you guys remind a random lurker which game had "Turn into a cloud of invincible poison mist" as only the third most broken thing the player could do?

It's a bit of a an exaggeration. The game was made before video games became a rollercoaster ride where the devs autistically want you to play how THEY want and go through EVERY setpiece they made. A modern SotN would be completely linear but with the illusion of having freedom to go how we want. And that's before dumbing things down even harder than thought possible since you can't expect someone to go online and look up how to get the inverted castle.

Na, you're fine. I was assuming it was SotN on account of all the game-breaking people mentioned but I'm not a Castlevania fan so I figured I'd ask just to be safe.

So yes, the game had so many ways for players to break it, even accidentally, that even non-fans are aware of how busted it is.
