Old Phail for all his faults (and let's be clear, 99% of his khantent were faults) at least had passion, both for creating khantent and for playing vidya. Two things. First, he clearly has passion for drinking and playing gacha games. Also, I am not a psychologist but I am sure him dominating and mistreating his audience gives him some form of rush.

Second, games are excuses for him to beg. It's clear at this point he wants nothing to do with honest work, but at the same time just sitting and waiting for tips won't do.
