If anyone is to blame for that conflict it is Austro-Hungary, it is the state that set off the chain reaction of military alliances being called into effect and that created the whirlpool of death and destruction that pulled nations and soldiers (both volunteer and conscript) into it alike. The war was a tragedy that should serve as a cautionary tale for the potential consequences of international politics.

Not true, they are the descendants of the Dutch Europeans who started settling there at around 1650. It needs to be specified that the Boers/Afrikaners are descended from the Dutch because a lot of English came over later on but the two types of European stock did not get along and eventually went to war.

Germany in this way is an enabling force that made military conflict not only more likely but virtually guaranteed. They did this because they feared the Russian empire and what it could become if they weren't crushed sooner than later. This is also the same reason they backed Lenin incidentally.

The article says scores of them accepted the offer. A score is a quantity of 20, so the headline made it sound as if only 60-180 accepted it (Any higher and you'd refer to it as hundreds, not scores)
