Tucker continues his campaign of smarmy lies. A few days ago it was his rants with Piers Morgan about how Ukraine is evil and Putin has never done anything to him. Well, now he's repackaging old conspiracy theories:

The claim that weapons we send Ukraine are being resold to Mexican cartels is a fake story from June 2023. A Mexican reporter (mis)identified a weapon an alleged cartel member had as a Javelin, and mentioned in passing that the Javelin is also being used in Ukraine. Several zigger-rightists (including such luminaries as Jack Posobiec and Vivek Ramasamy) jumped on this and misrepresented the reporter's comment as claiming that the cartel's weapon actually came from Ukraine. Some bottom-barrel news outlets repeated the false story (Example).

In reality, most analysts say the weapon was likely an AT4, not a Javelin. And obviously Ukraine is in no position to sell spare weapons to cartels halfway around the world.

So, Tucker is trying to breathe new life in an old debunked story. He even got a shout-out from Libs of TikTok, who characterized it as "Tucker Carlson EXPOSES a major scandal":

I keep seeing that mentioned from time to time, no sources of course. I mean, it's hypothetically possible that weapons from Ukraine (not just Ukrainian but Russian too) would find their way on black market, it's a massive warzone.
But to state it as a matter of fact and some kinda systematic problem? Yeah, they're full of shit.
Basically, these people try to find or manufacture flaws in Ukraine to justify Russia, even though it's faulty logic to begin with. None of it justifies Russia's invasion, let alone all the shit that resulted from it.

Stuff like this is why I think that's likely (aside from Trump cucking to China regarding espionage and trade issues, as well as the lying campaign that culminated in the dissolution of USAID).

My contention with this (and I assume @Ghostse's as well) is that people conflate this with tactical level defeat. The US lost Vietnam and Afghanistan due to political-level failures, despite tactical-level successes. The Iraq war is a perfect example of this. The US, with an undersized force, was still able to conquer Iraq and topple Saddam in under a month with minimal casualties. The problem that lead to the following shitshow was political; stand down orders during the looting, Rumsfeld refusing to provide the coalition with adequate strength for occupation, and the CPA passing fucking awful orders that antagonized the population.

The military campaigns for Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and Iraq were such quick one-sided affairs that online armchair generals and their adjacent circles have had nothing to do but endlessly pick apart the subsequent 20-year occupation, acting as if it were one big 24/7 Fallujah.

Their perspective of the entire conflict is probably still deeply rooted in the sensationalist stories that were massively peddled in the 2000s by fear-mongering entities like Fox News and CNN to keep their ratings high. The way that they were reporting it, you would have thought that tens of thousands of U.S. soldiers were being gunned down every week in the streets as the nation was just this close to collapsing! The "dull" reality of the area being turned into a background babysitting job by late 2004, with less than a dozen casualties each year, was one seldom heard on the major news channels.

Too many people have this "video game" mentality of warfare where there is only one "decisive" way to win or lose a war even though half of all conflicts throughout history can be considered slightly beneficial stalemates. Europeans butchered each other for 30 years in the 1600s only to then all collectively agree to fall back and end the conflict. Prussia "lost" the First Schleswig War to Denmark due to similar political pressures, and the Crimean War just made everybody go bankrupt for a few Christian communities in the Ottoman Empire. The United States held down a chunk of mountainous desert the size of Texas or California from across the Atlantic for over two decades while facing so little economic or military repercussions, that many downright forgot we were still there before the pull-out reminded us. The only true anguish felt was from the Military Industrial Complex, who couldn't test out their new toys in the sandbox anymore.

Iraq was a military victory that got stuck in a politically untenable situation. Even then US forces still won. Saddam died and his government was dissolved.
