It's well within guidelines, but the reason it is 4 and not 16 years is they chose concurrent and not consecutive. This decision was shit, as the crimes had multiple victims, much more than the four charges pled to. Whether the crimes were against separate victims, or caused different harms, is supposed to be taken into considering in the choice of whether they're consecutive or concurrent.

For instance, every false statement in a fraudulent insurance claim is a separate offense, so you'll often see someone charged with 16 counts of insurance fraud for one false claim because they submitted multiple forms with multiple false statements in them, but this is almost always going to be concurrent.

At the other extreme, you have someone like a serial killer who murdered a dozen people. Obviously that's going to be consecutive.

This should have been consecutive. It wasn't just one offense with a lot of separate technical offenses in it. It was a deliberate serial swatting campaign taking place over the entire nation.

It is very much accurate to call him a teenager because he is a retarded teenager and he comitted all of his crimes while he was 17. This is not a defense of him or me saying that he doesn't deserve a harsher sentence (he deserves life in prison). It's just an accurate description of him, he is a retarded teenager, as are most of the kids that hang out in those swatting and extortion groups and that's important to the conversation when talking about these groups. There is a huge issue with teenage boys specifically congregating in Discords and Telegram groups to terrorize normal people because they are losers who feel outcast from society. Something needs to be done about them, especially since they also have been tied to several school shooters now. Discord also needs to be held accountable for how many of these communities fester on their platform.

Eh, if he ended up narcing on his client list I'd assume the feds would want proof of payment to prove that they were in fact clients, and would confiscate the money/crypto. From there I can't imagine the excuse "I spent it" would go very far without further investigation.

I'm not saying that he couldn't have stashed money away somewhere, but hiding money properly for it to be untraceable under scrutiny isn't the easiest thing, and with how light a sentence he got I can't imagine he held anything back.
