Aaron Schwartz was a founder too. His name has been written out largely because 1) he killed himself a few years ago and 2) spez is an irredeemable cunt.
His story is really interesting, there's a documentary on him called "the internets own boy" - he did a few cool things like inventing RSS and fought copyright law -definitely worth a watch, it's on youtube.
You should mention too that for months just before digg died, steve and alexis astroturfed reddit themselves by spamming news/comments to try gain a foothold.

I don't think it's too complex. I would say it's a left-wing phenomena but the fetishization of conflict is bipartisan, if only due to the believe that your ideology will ascend above the rest. But I think I can explain the Left and redditors.

They need to believe that they are the underdogs, existing in rebellion to the status quo thus giving them a moral imperative to act and behave the way they do. Their beliefs are that progress can't be stalled and must keep going, even if things are at a stable equilibrium, because the man/conservatives/fascists are waiting just around the corner to reverse all of it. However the escalation of that idea has been continuing upward for decades, with the scale of their 'foe' increasing in size whilst the actual threat their foe poses is negligible. It has led us here at the point where they either knowingly use hyperbole for the sake of political theatre, or they sincerely believe that their life is in actual jeopardy and the war for their individual rights is just around the corner. This is why some of them unironically believe 'punching nazis*' is justified without provocation or that the idea of your opponents being murdered is something they're indifferent to (See Destiny and others justifying why the firefighter at the Trump rally deserved to die). The idea that their enemies want war is just an excuse for them to make their rhetoric even more violent whilst also making their demands even more unreasonable. With redditors specifically, their framing for war and rebellion is in pop culture shit like Star Wars and V for Vendetta - rebellion to the status quo and (opposing) leadership is a moral good, and since they are good, the universe effectively deems that they are destined to win any conflict which arises, which helps explain their haphazard clamouring for such conflict.

TLDR: They're living out the 'teen rebelling against their parents' phase far into adulthood only the 'parents' are X-political leader and their method of rebelling is LARPing on the internet.

P.S. if I'm speaking out my ass lemme know.

Every time I think I’ve come to terms with these people they do shit like this.

I had a dog that could open latch doors but couldn’t do push doors. It would just stand on its high legs and open the door but it would close by the time he went down.

And as a kid I thought my dog would be able to open the doors like the velociraptors is Jurassic Park eventually. And it took me a long time to realize my mutt was not in fact, a genius, even though he could do something cool.

And watching them conclude that feasibly, a malevolent government COULD in fact reduce 2A via a system of defecto government suppression, I have to remind myself, like that dog opening that door, there are no higher functions. He’s doing it for a treat. He’s about to piss on the rug.

They probably shouldn't be bringing up politics at all, as a teacher they shouldn't be trying to influence political opinions. Especially if they're so soft that they need the support of Redditors to cope with what literal children do and say.

They'll likely have a shock when the parents don't really care. They might even support Trump and Elon. Perhaps they'll cry about that on Reddit as well. Reddit users forget that a third of their countrymen voted Republican and over that amount literally didn't vote at all.

The only reason I ever discussed politics with students was because it was journalism, long story, and we would watch news clips. They wouldn't understand some context and terms.

Bots and upvotes have the secondary function of molding peoples' behavior. Redditors are herd animals and as such they imitate the kind of behavior that is most upvoted. With bots, the transition from human to machine can be done imperceptibly.

there's days where I leave for work and only realize after that my nails are a bit too long and I feel embarrassed, then you have this guy going around with those talons. if he really has a horse that he likes to scratch, then who knows what kind of nasty shit hides under those nails?

The absolute fucking state of sport subreddits. Before, after an event was over, you'd get tons of news, snippets, manager/player statements to check out. But now in the post twitter-ban era, all you get is a total wasteland. r/soccer for example, today it was the most important match of the season so far and it's like a ghost town, nothing new after the post match thread whereas a year ago you'd get flooded with bits and reactions from journalists and players, which were the most interesting part to read, because sure as fuck I don't go there to read low effort jokes by redditors trying to farm karma.

An old man was scammed for weeks if not months, receiving numerous painful injections into his penis until it literally rotted away. He can no longer even urinate through it. The clinic that did this to him knew they were scamming him.

Redditors are, of course, outraged.
