A good idea...but there has to be a better way to manage that than what we are doing now.
They resist computerizing it because it IS a COG site.

They need to use it as a backup storage while computerizing the front end. Kind of "computers do initial paperwork, people file it in manila folders when done according to year and job description"

I do think that McConnell will find a faithless GoP senator to stall the votes for Tulsi and RFK. He only needs 1 more to vote with him to bring everything grinding to a halt. Which is of course the primary goal of the Uniparty for now.

They need to get their house in order to tackle Trump's attacks and right now the drones are all over the place with no one to 'tard wrangle them. Delay Trump's blitzkrieg for a month or two and that gives the Uniparty time to get their game plan set up and their house in order. Crack the whip and wield the club and the drones will quickly fall in line no matter their public faces.

There are still old school GoP'ers within the ranks and all it takes is one of them to side with the turtle to gum up the works.

My only questions are 1. who will step up and be the sacrificial lamb and 2. does Trump have a back up plan for when he gets stalled out by the congress critters?

I have recently been thinking about the Elon's role in Trump's second term and I can't help but be reminded of the story of Ramiro d'Orco as retold by Machiavelli in The Prince.

In short, Ramiro d'Orco was a cruel governor who the duke empowered to clean house and instill order in a disorderly state. The governor naturally drew the ire of the population for his cruelty and when he was no longer useful to the duke, he was swiftly disposed of in a public spectacle to appease the masses.

I believe many parallels can be drawn between Machiavelli's retelling and the current situation between Trump and Musk. Musk is acting as the big bad guy empowered by duke Trump to clean house and do all the necessary reforms Trump needs to solidify his power. Once he is no longer needed, perhaps as scheduled on July 4th or even before that as a result of a (possibly premeditated) public spat, Musk will be thrown under the bus to calm down the anger of the public and state officials alike. Trump would get his reforms while saving face, thus being a perfectly executed Machiavellian move.
I mean, yeah. I can see that.

Continuity of Government.

The theory, originally, was by having these records, in the event of a catastrophe (read: nuclear war), you could go through the bins and select certain skills and age ranges, look at where they were retiring too, and maybe get together teams.

It's why back in the day certain skillsets that worked for the government were put on farm way out in the middle of nowhere, or nice houses in small nowhere towns. But they stopped all that in the 1990's.

Well, except for the FBI and the CIA and the NSA and the... (you get the idea)
I think a lot of it also has to do with the sheer amount of old records. Remember that everything was done with paper for a lot longer than it was done digitally, and digitizing everything probably takes more time than it's worth - especially when digital records can be leaked or "hacked" while paper records stay where they are unless someone gets access to a bin that they should not. Also, a lot of those old secret government farms/towns were for secrecy. Case in point: Hanford, WA. They did not want people producing America's plutonium to rub elbows with outsiders.

you ought to go through it and make a big effort post about some of the fucked up shit in there.
I just lazy browsed it...

so apparently that recent drama in the FL between Desantis and the legislature is resolved
iirc there was an attempt by the speaker to do a crappy bill about illegals that would have run it through Dept of Agriculture which was shitting up concealed permits, but they folded

what got the US out of the Depression was not social programs, but WW2.

The US standard of living went down during WW2. It was the fact Europe was completely devastated and the end of price controls that finally saw prosperity return.

Unfortunately, "stop fucking with complex systems you cannot possibly understand well enough to control" is not a lesson anyone is willing to learn.

The bottom of the page is a place where effortposts go to die. I weep with you.
Really? Are people here actually reading half the posts on a page, then scrolling back up to the top to click to the next page? I figure if anything when there's too much backlog they'd either click through highlights or just skip entire pages.

being real i find the data incredibly hard to read and understand, which is why i haven't done a deep dive yet. i'm hoping someone less lazy and more autistic than me will do it so i can be outraged without as much effort. the amount of waste is staggering, and i don't know how anyone could defend not auditing every inch of the govt.
