Reminds me, I have a buddy who worked on the game. 2K gave the entire team keys today, but fucked up and accidentally gave out beta keys instead. Executives put out an apology to the employees earlier and told them they would revoke the beta keys and give them retail ones instead, then gave the staff basic copies, and not collectors editions.

Science: Be the first nation to put a man in space without killing him.
Civ 1 and 2: extrasolar colony
Civ 2 Test of Time: extrasolar colony and "transcendence"
Civ 3 to 5 & Rev: extrasolar colony
Civ 6: colony on another planet in the same solar system
Civ 7: just getting a guy into space?

And here I was predicting the next Civ game could have the moon landing as the Science Victory. I sense the Civ devs may be getting somewhat less optimistic for the future.

while the devs are crying that people don't like their slop, I'm over here playing civ 5 with mods again.
funny meme civ mods are so fun to play with, right now I'm Isabelle and my next door neighbors are vinesauce and Dr Evil. pepe was a neighbor, but i needed the oil and aluminum for future plans. he had to go, he was in the way.

Same. Still playing 4 and 5 from time to time. Civ 4 more. I actually like stacks of doom. At least in singleplayer.
Skipped 6 altogether. I moved on mostly to paradox games.

This is the first time ever I think the western dev team smells worse than the pajeets in the back.

It's a microcosm of everything that goes wrong these days.
- A bunch of out of touch old dudes barely hanging on for the love of the game/work. They drink the Kool Aid to stay employed even though they don't understand it, but "believe" women can have a prostate.
- Their young handlers that are providing the Kool Aid and making sure they understand their "White male privledge". They've always been fans of the franchise but have always wanted to make it more "inclusive".
- A moderately attractive white woman. She's "non-binary" so she can still be fuckable and use her looks to manipulate the losers around her while gaining a diversity point. She doesn't give a fuck about the game or DEI bullshit and just used it to get a job.

VII might be the first civ to just be straight up unsalvageable. It's just so utterly unfun. Since IV, every release has really been a watered down version of the previous game pending future updates. V was iffy and burdened by introducing a lot of new systems (hexagons) but eventually became a contender for the best in the series. Even VI became... playable, if still not as polished as V.
Meanwhile VII changes so much of what people like about civ that I legitimately do not know if any amount of updates can fix it. They straight up broke the core of the game. Sid Meier actually had a philosophy of '33s' for sequels, where he believed 33% of the game should keep established features, 33% should improve past features, and 33% should be new features entirely.
This feels more like 10%/0%/40%, and the other 50% is being saved for overpriced DLC.

Yep. This is the problem. Nothing has been improved, other than, arguably, the graphics.

Seriously can someone tell me what there is to like about this one? The core gameplay is fucked, leaders fucked, civs fucked, map generation fucked, game customisation fucked, game length fucked, UI fucked, quick turns fucked, queuing up tech fucked etc....
