And I took a gap year to travel around Europe, pretty much all of it, including non-Schengen nations.
I came back with a ton of respect for independent cultures. Some people, they do this whole Europe Travel thing and they only go to places like London, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, etc...these are all Cosmopolitan cities, not English, not French, not Spanish (Or Catalan for Barcelona), or German; they are international. And that's fine for them, I think it's great to have at least one international hub in a country; likewise, I think it's fine that plenty of other places in those countries insist on traditional culture. Likewise, they should have their say and if you fail to convince them to fall in line with the Cosmopolitan belief, that's on you for failing to convince them.
In the end , I have no intention of pressing other nations to do anything. If Britain wants to leave the EU, why did the EU do such a terrible job of convincing them to stay? Why did it immediately result in a cascade of anti-EU parties making huge gains? Isn't that a sign that it was all a House of Cards to begin with?
Finally, the people who use this Europe Travel thing as their main reason to promote the EU. Aside from the fact that using this as a reason for staying is vapid and self-serving, the actual checks to non-EU countries are hardly a problem at all; it's not like you need a Visa for most of them. Hell, the only reason me entering Bosnia was delayed was because some exceptional Euros didn't bring their passports and were all, "We have a right to enter! This is the EU!" Fuck, just wait for the train to stop, take out your passport and let them stamp it.
EDIT: This post was made after I was under the influence of Christmas wine and beer. It may be incoherent.
