Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

fuck at first i was hyped for leokaiser...
untill the pictures of his back got shown...
and his side profile....
and that his hips are going to be an extra piece...
and the individual robot modes...

don't get me wrong, this thing is going to have great fetures, but this is a 300 dollar figure but one of the members is just chillin' out on the back with only his legs being used on the combiner.
deathcobra being an extra member is also a neat bonus as one of the stretch goals, but the display stand as an unlock tier is just there to add extra plastic.

edit to prevent double posting:
god damn this is terrible, even combiner wars devastator did not have a gigantic ass

Combiner Wars Devastator also had to cut back on the individual figures and it itself was lightweight mess that needed a lot of work to make a decent figure. You shouldn't have to mix and match multiple upgrade kits to make a figure presentable. Not to mention the difference in sizes and what they have to work with.

cw devastator was also far bigger and has less add on pieces then this thing, and i'm sure the budget of it was smaller because it was a single box set instead of 2 deluxes, 2 voyagers and a commander box set. the 86 version now has half of longhawl just hanging off its back.
the individual pieces are still suffering a lot of problems like how the voyagers are just deluxe sized, but hey, they have elbows now!

They fixed the issues CW devastator had with the takara release. it sucks because all the rereleases were basedon the first release instead of the fixed takara one. Still this really does scream "cheaping out further" given you need to pay 100 USD for the bundle of 2 figures and the individual bots seem even more cheaped out on in these recent combiners compared to prior combiners. It's like a more expensive version of the FOC bruticus shitshow IMO. Instead of fgures being gimped and weird/hollow on their own it's like hollowed with articulation gutted and no folding panels to make bits less visible.

if I get a generations devastator ever I'm probably going to try and luck out on getting an old TFC hercules since he scales with the other combiners and doesn't have the skimped out on shit this new one has. I don't give a fuck if it's not an official figure lmao aesthetically he perfectly captures devastator's essence even if it isn't 1 to 1 caroon accuracy the new one isn't either.

Seriously I fucking love how the treads become the arms on this thing.

Disappointed about Domitius (HoS Prime) getting mogged by Starscream.

He’s actually one of my favorite alternate takes on Optimus Prime, both in terms of design and the retcon that he’s just a guy, no matrix, no divinity, no “juice” he’s just a normal.

While late IDW was bad, this really showed that what makes Optimus the best isn’t the “chosen of Primus” stuff, it’s his ability to never back down and know what’s right.

So this schmuck maximal, living by Optimus Prime’s code and beliefs, killed an Elder God.

Felt like IDW’s take on Ginrai.

These HoS two packs are up my alley though, gotta make some saw blades and a base for Optimus though. Him killing an Elder God is in the top 10 coolest things he’s ever done. I’m also just an outright Optimus collector at this point in my life.

Liokaiser is all voyagers no?

Not to try and defend the giant international company, but a brief reminder that Hasbro has to concern themselves with rising material costs and logistics on a much larger scale than third party companies sending their figures to a couple dozen online retailers. Plus, they're also beholden to shareholders so they have to maximize profits. They also can't dictate an individual price per figure, instead having to essentially design and work inside the budget of the size classes. So Liokaiser being $300 but not as complex or finely detailed as a third party figure of similar price does not surprise me. And sure, there could be some kind of sliding price scale for however many units are pre-ordered, however I'm pretty sure those are baked into the funding goals so you're getting more for your 300 bucks when more people pre-order. And again, shareholders and maximizing profits etc.

All that is to say, by all means continue to complain about figures Hasbro puts out. Just keep in mind there are designers on the team(s) that are doing their best with the resources allotted. There's clearly been a big push from them in recent years to provide us first-party toys that are fun and meaningful, and even first official toys for characters that never existed outside of the media. TBH, given the level of fan interaction they've had in the last few years, I'd love some more transparency into the actual production process to hear about where they had to make concessions for a figure or things they wanted earlier figures to have but couldn't afford at the price point.

EDIT: A thought occurred, but I'd really like to see Hasbro dip into the upgrade kit market. I'm sure there's been plenty of cases where they could have vastly improved a figure if they had an extra $10-20 to work with.

There is a difference between "dealing with rising costs" and "removing features/engineering and charging more and it still breaks". Yes I am still angry about tidal wave being turned into a partsformer with the BS excuse of "oh we couldnt engineer it it wouldnt be accurate and he's to complex" or whatever the fuck they said.yes I am also still upset about amazon cancelling my order due to the account being like one cent under at the time and then not telling me/removing the listing from my purchase history only for me to then fucking see the amazon copies still had the exploding knees from early copies unfixed unlike trypticon's later batches that fixed it.

Speaking of trypticon and higher prices I really hope my hunch about that trypticon rerelease being based on the exploding legs version isn't going to be what happens for real. My main worry about that is tied to every other reissue that wasn't a repaint being weirdly based on the earlier version of the mold instead of the improved one, most egregious example being CW devastator's reissue not using the UW molds that fixed the joint issues.

They mentioned in a stream that this version has the fixed hip ratchets.

I know what they SAID but I've been burned before lmao. SEE: EVERY FUCKING FIGURE THAT THEY HAD A RELEASE WHERE THEY ACCIDENTALLY ASSEMBLED THE KNEES WRONG. EVERY FIGURE AFTER THE KNEES GET ASSEMBLED WRONG USING THE MOLD GETS THE KNEES ASSEMBLED WRONG FOREVER. "oh don't worry the knees aren't gonna be backwards this time haha" FUCK

I hope we get more figure like the brave commander optimus, small and interesting gimmicks that allow for more poseability

Yolopark was late as fuck but the US Postal service hires literal chimps so what do you expect? Uncle Ted was right to be a menace to them (in Minecraft, Feds. Calm down)

What Bumblebee thinks Elita sees.

But seriously, these are nice non transforming figures. Elita is my fave so far. She's small and cute, and I can't wait for my Orion to arrive for her.

I'm a Yolopark fag now.

The TMNT figure is probably the best modern Transformer because it has both functionality (transforming) AND features. It has a belt with a turnstile of letters that can be changed depending on the turtle mask, the mouth looks decent for both a robot and a 2012-style TMNT character, the front logo can be removed to reveal a pizza oven, all the weapons and masks can be stored on the figure, and the alt mode is really, really good. The alt mode can pass for a decent non-Transformers Party Wagon toy; it even has spinning radar dishes and raising guns! It's so much fun, and it's definitely worth the premium. From what I've seen it even looks like the best Collaborative release.

They also look they way they should, minus Long Haul who still has to be a bit dumpy. So far X-Transbots have been the only ones to make him skinny. However, they're X-Transbots so overly engineered with terrible clearances so there's no saving it.
DX9 Red Storm (Sideswipe).

Pros: Gorgeous bot mode, fits together very well. I can hardly tell it transforms (the vehicle is nice, too).

Cons: Fits. Together. Very. Well. I don't know how I'll get this back into vehicle mode, no less go from vehicle > bot again. This thing's tolerances are too perfect. Also, no printed instructions, boo.
Their Prowl should be out soon. I did say people would like it, it's a great figure.
I agree with the instructions. Sure the guy they get to do the videos is good, but nothing beats a good instruction manual since you don't have to pause the video or decrease the videos speed.

Least you didn't order it from Amazon. Their drivers here don't know their numbers so you'll likely have the parcel dropped off a block before your house, and they just toss packages. They'll even leave expensive packages on the doorstep. They've done that with expensive monitors and televisions of mine.

I thought the figure was going to be a heavily modified Gears figure, it just shares some engineering aspects. Picked up four. I was going to pick up a fifth one for a Ironfist custom.

Silver Rioreus Prime looks a lot better than the red/brown version.

I don't think I'd ever combine the sword and shield though, will likely scratch the paint.

Son also prefers this version. Gives it a better knight feel.
