I think there was a place for them, they've just become way too oversaturated and samey. Assassin's Creed used to feel very different to Far Cry, even though they both had checklist-type gameplay elements, but now they all feel like cynical wastes of time designed to prod the player into spending more money to speed things up.do people really not get tired of the same ubishit everytime 100s of meaningless collectables, press e on towers to display more busy work. I feel like the last game to get away with that should've been far cry 3. development studios are way to risk averse nowadays
In an ideal world they would stop doing these franchise sequels and branch out into new IP/ideas, but since AAA budgets have become ridiculous and most recent attempts at doing new things have failed miserably they're just going to keep pumping out "safer" and woker sludge until they go out of business.
