Reminder, they're just rebranding/shuffling shit around, not actually shutting it down. Smoke and mirrors.

Also NOBODY likes dealing wth DEI shit, These people who are getting mad don't get it's not actually about the three things in the initials. People LIKE those three things, the policies enacted though are specialized tickbox racism shit for corpo investor numbers.

Are these whiners even working for Disney currently, or are at risk of getting terminated? If so, shut the fuck up and work on yourselves better. If not, then shut the fuck up if you still are aiming to get hired by them.

But you're addicted to Twitter, so you can't and will never get hired by them. And probably not by anyone else at this rate, they sound insufferable to work with. Sneed.

If almost as if there was some sort of incentive from the government to do this and now it is gone.
It's not even going away though technically! Likely due tot he investor side still being full on with it but who knows.

It's almost as if companies are tired of losing money and were looking for an excuse.
Weren't some of these same faggots bitching about Disney's DEI being insincere?

I'd argue Disney's representation before "DEI" was better and has gotten worse over time.
Consider these female characters.

Elisa, 1994*
Black and Native American
Tiana, 2009
Black American
Asha, 2023
Half fantasy-black, half-"white"
  • Who passes the Red Letter Media Test?
  • Who passes the Mako Mori test?
  • Who feels like a complete character with quirks and flaws that suit their setting?
*There wasn't a black female lead in any Disney animated films in the 90s, but I like Elisa a lot so I'm including her. I do feel, though, based on what we saw from that time period, a hypothetical Black female character made around the same time period would be more like characters like Rita (dog, Sheryl Lee Ralph), Kida (pre-racial human, Cree Summer), and Yzma (albino? Voice by Eartha Kitt).
Even in the dossier for Wish when the composers were given the assignment, one of the only things they were told about Asha was that she was "a young activist woman who was selfless and wanted to do right by the people of her town." Only the second part of that sentence is helpful for building a character.

No one tell them about the Tuttle Twins.

I still browse 4chan on occasion mostiy /sp/ or /biz/, but every so often I’ll check out /co/ to see if there is anything cool. However, then I remember /co/ doesn’t give a shit about fan animation like Astartes that is now official animation or weird YouTube animation shitposts.

Half of the shit is animators not so subtly glazing themselves and the other half is pedophiles. The owl house bitch and others openly do it and have confessed as much in the past.

I hope to god the USAID shit let’s 4chan be fun again. /tv/ posting murderers on true crime channels and breaking down animation better than /co/ was fun

/co/ has surprisingly gone to complete shit after the "wait 15 minutes to post" BS was added. Shills don't even post threads there anymore (one of the most obvious was Pantheon which referenced /x/ in one frame of the show). 30% of the posters now are people who just use the board to make stealth leftist threads since they don't have the balls to use /pol/. At least the people who post about modern shit are clearly low in number autists. Probably the same 5 people are making and posting threads on shows like StuGo.

Nowadays it's literally "Disney's le quirky brown girl" as the protagonist for every other film.
Rapunzel worked because she literally spent her life locked in a tower. The execs saw that and just said "People like quirk chungus! Clone her!"

In my opinion, following Tangled:
  • Brave: Merida is good, but that was actual-Pixar
  • Frozen: The rework worked, but you can tell Anna was supposed to be a Rapunzel clone. They could have excused this as her also being isolated, too, but that's being generous.
  • Moana: Moana herself should have been reworked, but we know the film as a whole was reworked so much you can tell somewhere along the line they just went "Make her spunky and ship it."
  • Encanto: Mirabel is supposed to be fun and quirky and relatable, isn't. Disney execs knew they needed Isabella for marketing, but were apparently actually surprised how much kids like Luisa.
  • Turning Red: Self-confident quirk chungus made by Disney-Pixar
  • Wish: Annoying quirk chungus and wasted potential
