There's also the chestnut that those who keep silence don't give a damn about politics.
For all we know, those people who keep silent about politics are busy writing letters to their congressmen, attending town halls to speak with their representatives about the issues that affect them - the sort of things that keep the democracy working.
But it's not as glamorous as protesting, so clearly they're all implicit accomplices.
