As an aside, I wanted to rant about one non-culture war related gripe I have with KCD and moreso recent RPGs in general. This fucking trend of main plot that takes place over the course of a few weeks to a month needs to die. So many RPGs have had absolute shit breakneck pacing that it's driving me nuts. KCD1 and 2 are both great examples of it. Henry's journey happens in such a short amount of time, his feats border pure fantasy to the point where you might as well have magic in the setting. And it makes 90% of side content unbelievable, as there's no way you can shove it into the timeframe of the story. Deadfire had a similar issue, in BG3 it isn't as egregious but the whole "we have a ticking time bomb in our heads so we need to do something about it ASAP" type of urgency really irks me. It feels like some bullshit designed to keep low attention niggercattle invested in the story but it just makes me want to tap out instead. What happened to making games where the story takes place during an indefinite period or one closer to a year or two? I don't mind the time frame being small on principle, but you better execute it properly. Disco Elysium is a good example of doing it right. Don't give me 50 million sidequests to do if there isn't any breathing room for any of that shit during the course of the plot.

combat is actually way too easy and not engaging. The NPCs just stand there looking at you and all you have to do is wait til you see the green shield pop up and bam easy counter. Don't even have to block the right direction for it to work, just wait for the indicator that tells you what to do and when.

I gotta say it was a good thing they made me work remotely during this, if i had to socialize with my coworkers in person during the Dead Niggers Matter riots, i would have been fired and blackballed for sure, I can't act that well. I low key think one of the reasons anime has exploded in popularity is that it's one of the very very few entertainment mediums that portrays women being nice or kind to men.

Western media mostly just has the female characters acting as angry aggressive men, half the time they look just like men too so why they're made female at all is a mystery.

Yup. Unfortunately, anime has 4 problems that are dealbreakers for any western adult with any modicum of taste:
1. Its fanbase. I'm not certain if weeaboos and fujoshi qualify as human beings, but if they do, they are certainly some of the lowest forms of human life (To their credit, though, they gatekeep better than anyone else ive ever seen)
2. The Japanese have an entirely foreign idea of how old "old enough" is, and to western standards, its disgusting
3. The writing for most of their stuff is trash tier. Never have i seen so many brilliant concepts so thoroughly wasted
4. Hentai. The less said, the better.

There's something of an answer to this I think. It's not universal obviously, and doesn't seem as common in the older generation, but a lot of anime is adapted from manga and light novels as you may know. Manga is one thing, and manga-originals tend to have a higher baseline for writing quality. This is because the manga takes longer to produce so the writer/artist has more time to think about plotting, details, characterisation, and on top of that they have an editor to criticise and suggest changes and improvements as they go along. There's a layer from creator to publication that helps improve the overall story and writing quality. Light novels however are particularly egregious because the authors typically pursue quantity over quality, and nowadays are self-published in an online environment with no editors - maybe a proof-reader if you're lucky. If it achieves a certain acclaim, it can transition from an online environment to physical print, which in turn gives it enough prestige for a manga adaptation, which eventually receives an anime one. Imagine if something off of Wattpad, fanfiction.net or RoyalRoad got adapted to TV, and that's usually the end result (Although you don't have to imagine too hard, 50 Shades of Grey was Twilight fanfiction early in its life).

Like you said, they can create good concepts but fumble massively on the execution. Although I'd be remiss if I didn't point out this might also be an age thing. Prior to the internet, light novels essentially acted as the Japanese counterparts to something like Pulp, albeit more serialised than a lot of old Pulp stories were.

For '1', I think Westerners worshipping Japs is as pathetic as Whites worshipping Blacks *Cough* Vavra *Cough* If you just regard anime it as being akin to a tv show and not some enlightened look into a foreign culture, it's less cringe. Fujos and shit exist general in the West too, and to maybe give you something to approve Jap anime fans, 'Fujoshi' translates to 'Rotten girl', as it was - and presumably still is - a pejorative.

Make a webnovel, built to be read during commutes. You get enough readers, you get a manhua made, which are also formatted for reading on phones during commutes. You get an extremely high amount of manhua readers, you may or may not get an animation. And everybody copying your shit.

The problem with this, you ask? Well, let's just say that the kind of person who reads webnovels tends to only like a couple genres/tropes/etc.

This last bit is essentially what has happened to the Japanese over the years, consolidation. Remember that the original character designer for, say, Ace Attorney now does yaoi manga. And reputedly, fujoshi-bait is also getting popular in Korea. Korea is basically Japan on a time-delay with a twist when it comes to this stuff. In a very real way, so are modern Western game writers.
