Avowed - Obsidian's new game, like Pillars of Eternity meets Elder Scrolls

Doesn't Avowed explicitly take place in the same universe as POE though?

I'm confused why you would write background lore for a setting and then just ignore said lore and make up new less interesting lore.

The only reason I can think of why you'd do this is that the old lore wasn't considered woke enough for le current year.
As Dragon Age showed, existing lore is merely a suggestion for the current crop of industry writers.

So far I have tried to put an hour into this, without any price.

It is... the controls and combat worked fine enough for the tutorial. But the npcs are static, the world feels static, and the npcs are ugly and boring too.

This feels like a tightened bethesda engine that does what it can well, but can't do really much, and they had tumblr write a story for it.

Doesn't feel as bad as a Veilguard yet, but its definately nothing new, and you need to be a mutant with herbs over your face. It is a downgrade to Skyrim and POE games.

I’ve just finished the first one. Very fun but SUPER mobile game feeling. Which it apparently was and Extinction was released on Console and got so popular they ported the first game to console with some improvements. I was super confused why the first one was Series X/S formatted but the sequel wasn’t. I got both for cheap and I’m excited to play the second one. I’ve heard it’s an improvement on the first in almost every way.
Yeah I looked into their history a bit, honestly the fact that it's a mobile game port but still fun says a lot. As for Extinction, I can't say how much of an improvement it is compared to the first game but surely a console port is better than a mobile port.
I hope not. I think they’re making it like the Switch Pokémon games. The other two games weren’t like PalWorld so don’t do that with this one please Devs.
It's probably more likely to be like the Switch Pokemon games like you said, though I can't say I'm looking forward to it as much. Sprites tend to have more sovl than 3D models, but it's not hard to one-up modern Pokemon...
I played for a few hours. The gameplay is kinda fun i give it that. Its just a shame the dialog is reddit tire in writing and the world is less interactive then Sarfield. Explored a bit and even found some pretty cool gear (i found a ring that heals me if i stay in water).
That'll probably be enough for the average person to recommend it, but I doubt it'll do terribly well regardless. I will say, having it open to pre-order niggercattle before he rest of the masses will do them more harm than good so there might not be a huge bump in popularity when it officially releases.
Holy shit I get to Paradis and the game starts utilizing 24gb of ram :stress:
PLEASE tell me you screenshot that shit. That is a hell of a memory leak.
X - Nitter for salt mining and slop eating.
Would recommend xcancel, also lol some people in that thread are clowning on him.

Yeah, that, too -- the game is apparently quite buggy. Also heard it isn't particularly well optimized.
Optimization is the canary in the coal mine for woke game developers. Optimization requires talent, skill, dedication, autism... all things DEI hires notoriously lack. So if a game isn't optimized, it was either shat out on a schedule that prevented it from being polished properly, or the team just didn't have enough white (or asian) male coders left after hiring Shaniqua Bixnood and her Transdyke posse to shit all over the source repository.

Another Microsoft published game, another dumpster fire disaster. I can't believe anyone is defending this shit. Like Star Wars Outlaws, it seems we'll have to wait a bit before everyone can admit the game is utter trash.

I work in tech so I know for a fact that poojeets cannot code but another big part of it is UE5 itself.

UE5 is notorious for being an absolute buggy piece of shit that will tank your FPS seemingly for no real reason regardless of hardware strength.

If your game runs like dogshit 9/10 it's a UE5 game.

Suggestion would be a lot nicer than we get were old lore is to actively be raped and broken, then sold off for parts. It's not that they don't know the lore, they actively hate it and that it's something people like and can get joy out of.

Hold on maybe I'm retarded, it's 'only' 7-10gb

Even the npcs in oblivion with their "have you heard of the high elves" "no" "ok" "goodbye" were more organic than this game. The npcs in this game just stand in place repeating the same motions over and over. These are the new vegas devs? At least in new vegas you get people wandering around the strip and when you get close they say "hey there." But the npcs here are like props.

Avowed shares a lot of the same writers with the original PoE games. Carrie Patel was the lead for Avowed, a writer for first Pillars game, and (iirc) narrative co-lead on Deadfire. I think Megan Starks, Paul Kirsch, and Kate Dollahrhyde are also writers for Avowed and had worked on previous Pillars titles.

EDIT: I was wrong about Megan Starks working on Avowed. Here's the credited writers / narrative designers:

John Cotto worked on Deadfire. Josh Sawyer finally getting dragged into this mess is funny; during the early years of Avowed's production he had nothing to do with it, even getting irritated that people kept asking him about it.

No. The New Vegas devs fucked off years ago.

Devteam of Theseus problem. Obsidian was only as good as it's employees, and they were targeted by the woke mind virus a decade or more ago and their brain rotted out. Obsidian 2025 couldn't make New Vegas. In fact, they'd consider it transphobic and kinda fascist coded to even try.

Played two hours and... I'm having fun?
Strange since I been mocking the game on other threads.
