There is no such thing as heroin anymore. Okay, technically heroin still exists but 0% of "heroin" sold on the streets is heroin. It's all fentanyl. It's a combination of the Taliban restricting opium (Afghanistan has always been the #1 opium producer), which you need to make heroin, and the widespread availability and other advantages of cheap Chinese fentanyl.

I thought powder cocaine was just as likely if not more so than crack to have fentanyl in it? Seems like every time I've read of someone accidentally ODing on fentanyl its powder coke, if only from a shitty dealer not cleaning the scale in between weighing out, that or cut heroin or fake prescription pills. I don't think I've ever heard of crack being cut with fent, seems like you'd have to really intentionally put it in since it's in such a different form factor, and that's if it wouldn't burn off during the cooking process.

First, fentanyl is a perfectly safe recreational drug that should be legalized. Having fent in the room with you will not kill you. Fent is only dangerous when you dont know its fent.

That said the process of making crack actually saves crackheads from cocaine either being cut with fent or it accidentally having trace amounts.

First, its an actual rock/crystal. No one buys powdered crack. Crack is essentially purified cocaine. The process of mixing it with water and sodium bicarbonate and heating it leaves behind the fent as fent is not soluble (much) in water. Then most crack heads smoke the crack (it can be shoved up your butthole if you'd like). Now you can smoke fent, but again this is where being a crack head helps out. Crack vaporizes at about 90c, where as fent doesnt vaporize until 190c. So the crack head would have to burn up all the crack to then burn up the fent. This could be a downfall of Austin's double-torch technique. Inhaling fent vapor is actually safer than injection or snorting.

If you're worried about it, do an acetone wash of your powder cocaine first to remove any and all impurities, then make your crack from there. You should be doing this anyway unless you really trust your coke dealer to be bringing you pure stuff. Fentanyl is freely soluble in acetone, and will wash away with all other impurities, leaving behind pure, raw cocaine.

The issue with fentanyl being in cocaine and other drugs is usually not an intentional action by the dealers. When they cut and mix drugs, they just aren't cleaning the equipment well enough between using it for cocaine and heroin. The problem stems from the fact that fentanyl is active in such insanely small quantities that even just a few milligrams of residue is enough to taint something else that is on the same surface or is processed with the same equipment.
