Marvel Cinematic Universe

people don't seem to realize how much it costs to do space bullshit. GOTG 2 mostly takes place on one planet and two different star ships which had both sets already made, and it still cost $200 million. you can't really do any of it cheaply, so it has to be a billion dollar hit. because of the modern film economy, in general its retarded to do blockbusters now. there's a reason you aren't seeing many movies with budgets beyond $125 million outside of kids animated films anymore, the ROI is shit.
200 million is chump change. The average budget for a marvel movie is close to 190 mill. And before they shit canned their reputation the movies were making money back.

No, I think Disney purchasing Star wars and the resulting trash fire discouraged them from "over saturation". They could have milked it hard and had the next star wars but they misinterpreted the fan reaction as an over all distaste for sci fi. I figure in a world where Disney doesn't purchase star wars it would have been more likely.

I haven't watched Cap 4, but I imagine it would be very easy for any Avenger involved in the Thanos fight to get elected to public office... except Bucky, the brainwashed Russian assassin.
I forgot to mention how stupid that is. A known Manchurian candidate running for office while the president survives an assassination attempt from manchurian candidates. What the fuck were they thinking.

Marvel is a lolcow, this thread belongs here.

From what I heard recently, before the reshoots and rewrites this was going to be "Captain America: Black Lives Matter". For example, apparently there was a major subplot about how the first Captain America was actually a black man, but the government of course betrayed him and he ended up in prison. And the Super Soldier program itself started as a variant Tuskegee experiment. So all that, even moreso than the presence of Captain Zionist, was sanded down to a nub.

As to the budget, entertainment industry shill sites like Deadline are running with the story: ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Barreling Toward $90M+ 4-Day

"We're hyping up this new, lower number even though we were just going on, hours before, about how CA4 was headed towards 95 million! We used the word barreling to make it sound like this is progressing forward in a positive way!"

To quote from Deadline

UPDATED, Friday midday: It’s Valentine’s Day and even though there aren’t any female skewing movies on the marquee such as Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, it’s still bound to be a big moviegoing day even though we have the dude-skewing Captain America: Brave New World. The Anthony Mackie movie is expected to do around $39M today, which includes last night’s $12M, on its way to a 4-day of $90M+. Three-day is around $82M-$84M at 4,105. Day one for Captain America: Brave New World is higher than the first day/previews of Captain America: Winter Soldier which came in at $36.9M.

Eleven years after Winter Soldier, this new CA movie with double the budget might--mind you, might--barely eke out enough box office to barely squeak by! Friday box office numbers always include Thursday receipts as well--no reason why it should, other than Hollywood execs and others need something to help with their lies about how every movie is a smash hit. Plus, there's no real competition at the megaplexes for this latest Marvel film, so there will be no one else to blame when the Monday box office numbers come up shorter than they hoped. Below $90 million is now almost a cinch at this point, how low can it go? What excuses will the running dogs of the entertainment media be fed to report?

Superhero movies like this are heavily pushed and promoted to the early access, Thursday numbers and first week. That is where the studios get the biggest cut from theaters and when the real fanatical fans show up, the first week. After that, well, the box office receipts are going to fall off a cliff 60+ percent. The superhero subgenre of action flick has due to a variety of factors, including cape fatigue, probably, has had no legs for a while. A first weekend box office take of $85 million might be $30 million the next week and not even $20 million the next and after that a movie like Marvels or CA4 ought to be out of the theaters, because it is just Disney throwing its weight around forcing theaters to run duds on primo screens and too many of them. The only word of mouth CA4 will get is what it's already been getting, that it's a stinker.

Marvel Phase 5 and Phase 6 look like they are racking up quite the list of certain box office flops. Thunderbolts will bomb harder than any Suicide Squad movie did, Feige should probably be banished to the wastelands after Thunderbolts and Fantastic 4: First Steps flop or bomb in theaters theatrically but Kathleen Kennedy has been "two more weeks and she's OUTTA HERE!" for years now after all of the Disney Star Wars flops and she is not outta here.

The messed up thing is that the black test subject captain America story is in the comics and it's actually good. Like this was way before the woke shit and I remember enjoying the way the story was setup and framed with the dudes wife telling cap about his story.

At the end of it the cap black got retarded from the earliest form of the serum so Captain America respectfully salutes him and thanks him for his service. The storyline honestly could have worked in a pre woke time but they made the right call not doing it now.

I'm not even mad that Sam got the shield over Bucky (though, admittedly, Bucky would have had a classic redemption arc storyline before taking the mantle; would have been a much more interesting story to tell given what we know now, but I digress).

Imagine Marvel not bothering with doing Falcon & Winter Soldier or this stupid new movie-- they just skip to the Avengers movies and just establish for five seconds that Sam has been Cap for a handful of years now. Audiences would have accepted that just fine. People probably would have preferred that because there's less "homework" to watch to understand what the hell is going on. lol. They wouldn't have ruined Sam Wilson's character in the process either.

Back when Endgame came out, I didn't hate Sam being given the shield. I felt he was worthy of it after seeing his quality of character in his first MCU appearance (The Winter Soldier). Dude showed compassion to other veterans and was loyal AF to Steve Rogers and his values with no questions. Plus, I was one of the people who said back in 2019 that logically speaking, Bucky being an unintentional murderer would make the public more hesitant to embrace him as the new Cap ... Well, that shit is out the window given that apparently Bucky can be a US Senator despite murdering a US President! LOL.

Marvel, wtf you doing? :story:

disney called it as a 4 day $100 million opening, this is a telling statement because Disney is obnoxiously conservative with their weekend takes and usually tries to lowball their opening weekends, that way its an extra surprise when they're 5% over what they claimed. so for them to give such a high total means it must be chaos on the lot. We're going to be seeing all the damage control for the next 5 months because clearly they're desperate for this to be a W. WOM is terrible, lowest for a MCU movie in a long time. Thunderbolts will pay for CA4's misdeeds.

this entire year's slate is just awful, i wouldn't be surprised if they remove even more of what they're making. as it stands now they only have two avengers films and a spiderman in production for next year, meaning the rest of the MCU has died on the vine for them. they've all but abandoned their television department as well.

in general disney must be scared shitless, they were the industry leaders for so long and while the avatar sequel will save them this year, 2026 has nothing on the horizon. half their theatrical releases for this year have flop written on them and they don't have the MCU to rely on anymore for billion dollar grossing megahits.

the film industry in general peaked in 2019 and between covid and the strikes hasn't been able to get their shit together and 2026 is going to be another strike year. outside of GOTG 3 the entire 20s era for the MCU has been terrible

Technically, Deadpool and Wolverine counts as an MCU success given that Disney owns Fox now. But we all know that movie's success happened solely because of what Fox built with their Marvel characters for the past 20-something years, and that nobody gave a shit about the MCU stuff that was in it.

Spider-Man: No Way Home doesn't count as an MCU success, as most of its profits went to Sony, lol. And I don't know a single person who saw No Way Home for Doctor Strange. Everyone saw that movie because of nostalgia for the previous, non-MCU Spider-Man movies.

It's sad when GOTG 3 is the MCU's biggest success over the past 6 years. That movie was "mid AF," as the kids would say. Plus, James Gunn's vision with the Guardians is done at this point. Marvel doesn't really have a clear path forward with those characters anymore.

I honestly can't see the movies continuing after secret wars and X-Men. They are not adapting stories properly, the writing is low quality and they are running out of star power. They need to slow down and pull a Lucas or something.
Narratively speaking, by then it would be way too late to introduce the X-men into the MCU.

Trying to pull a civil rights issue arc would be weird since it kinda already happened with the Sokovia accords.

And we would have already seen that story play out two times already in to different hero cinematic universes.

At that point, Charles Xavier and Magneto will have to have been born much later than the WW2 era.

The MCU is already too bloated to add them in.

i loved the movie for what it was and the whole plot was a lot darker than you usually see in blockbusters, plus the visuals and effects were amazing, but the stuff outside of rocket and high evolutionary were dogshit. the songs were clearly decided way after post and don't really hit the way they do in the first two. the way they censor No Sleep til Brooklyn feels like a fucking joke considering the other content in the film isn't exactly kid friendly. playing that florence and the machine song was retarded and you can tell based on the movements it doesn't actually work, most people don't learn about music but if you did you'd know most songs have roughly the exact same BPM, and thats why the ending song "fits" but it doesn't. they clearly filmed the sequence without a song in mind, but "dog days are over" isn't exactly a fun kid party dance song.

the way they fuck over Adam Warlock blows too, i especially hate the opening minutes where they are like "hey peter quill, the brother of mantis, how's being half human and half god, does it make the pain of what happened to Zoe and her amnesia after coming back post-snap hurt any less?" and other dumb lines meant to catch everyone up on everyone's stupid arcs.

Starlord is retired and done being a hero as of G3 though isn't he?
from what i'm seeing everyone in the MCU retired outside of the Fantastic Four and doom, the way shit's going they might as well announce that they're abandoning the MCU universe and exclusively doing FF-universe stuff from now on. because their roster is dogshit and no one cares or remembers what few cast members they have left.

I literally only recommend the movie to people just for Rocket and the High Evolutionary.

All of the other stuff was either entirely forgettable, or entirely cringeworthy. The jokes were not even remotely funny (unlike in the first two Guardians movies), I thought that the "death bait" with characters like Drax and Starlord were entirely unnecessary (especially considering the ENTIRE movie is surrounded around deathbaiting Rocket), the pacing dragged, Gamora's arc sucked, Adam Warlock was insulting to my intelligence and painful to watch as a comic book reader, etc. It's a very perfunctory movie with some moments of brilliance sporadically sprinkled through it. But hey, the general audience liked it enough to make it a modest W for the modern day MCU.

And I agree about Awesome Mix 3. I own the mix, and there's good songs in it (don't get me wrong), but it doesn't have the flow or cohesion that Awesome Mixes 1 & 2 have, and the songs felt much more forced and not fitting in the actual movie.

For real, Awesome Mix 1 & 2 are some of the best playlists/mixtapes a person can listen to. Great compilations of songs, and part of the reason why they are so great is because the music worked as a characters of their own in their respective movies. There's no song in Volume 3 that really "stands out" in the scenes which they were used.

Personally, I thought that the Christmas special from a few years ago was much better than Volume 3, lol.

In contrast to GOTG Volume 3's soundtrack, Cobra Kai's use of a particular song during a huge moment in the final episodes that just dropped this past week ... It was SO good.

AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" was used in that moment. Thunderstruck is an overplayed and grossly overused song in movies and TV these days ... However, the use of it in the Cobra Kai scene I'm talking about was so pitch-perfect and fitting that I could not help but to pump my fist in the air when I saw it.

Awesome Mix 3 has no memorable moment like that with its soundtrack, whereas I can point out every song used in Volumes 1 and 2 and remember the scenes of which they were used vividly.

so I saw Captain America 4 at 10 last night with my resident gang of black friends I watch every superhero thing with in the shittiest, cheapest, worst movie theater in the most hood part of my metro area. we had planned to just download it and watch a cam at my house, but my woman was home and hates when I have these dudes over, plus it was $2 beer night at this movie theater. there was nobody in there except for us and the couple of drunks who had probably been told they had to pay for a movie to keep drinking in their bar and they were shuffling in and out and a couple of them were straight passed out snoring towards the front row. tbf this theater is always empty after 9. nobody is going to take their family or something there late at night. so we could just sit and bullshit the whole time without bothering anyone. one of my friends is literally retarded, we pulled up to his apartment building and he was wearing a cape and a dollar store thor helmet. when pressed on what he was doing he said "the last Captain America was Civil War, that was just an Avengers movie. I thought this one would be too? hulk was on the commercial" when told no it was just captain america and also Thor wasn't even in that one he responded with a "fuck bruh, this movie is JUST the black fuckin' falcon? that nigga ain't the REAL Captain America. which one of y'all buying my ticket this is some bullshit, I shoulda stayed home and played Final Fantasy" (apparently he just bought FF7R2) he just sat there silently and angry the whole movie smoking a weed vape and drinking beers, stated it sucked as soon as we got in the car and never elaborated.

anywho, as typed on my phone after they happened, here are the highlights:

  • opening scene "wasn't this man also a soldier why doesn't he shoot these guys, isn't this a military mission? gay ass shit. punchin' these dudes and hittin' em with bricks and broke his damn rib. if he really has shit to do today he'd have came with a strap."
  • friend leaned in to me and said "what? now he's cap & not black falcon we got a mexican falcon? why don't you become an avenger and be the yellow falcon"
  • "they probably threw this old nigga isaiah in prison for decades because this nigga talk a lot of shit about America. why'd they let this nigga out?"
  • "they just now finding adamantium? is wolverine finna be a little boy or sumthn?"
  • this one was yelled out when Bradley attacks: "OL' BOY'S A GOT DAMN TERRORIST! I told y'all 5 minutes ago his ass needed to stay locked up!"
  • "you're not steve rogers" - "HELL NO HE AIN'T!"
  • "super soldier serum does no favors to black hair nahhmean? *loud guffaw*"
  • "gus a savage, just out in the street with a full COD loadout in that coat like he's in nuketown"
  • "they couldn't find a fine israeli girl, wonder woman's bad ain't she israeli? this chick's busted"
  • "notice this fucking messican knows exactly how to break in a place and beat the security with just his pocket knife? yup. you already know."
  • "the fuck this japanese guy gonna do to america's president? take away naruto?"
  • "UGHHHHH!! this ugly big head mf is what happens a kid who's mama makes 'em listen to mozart in their baby crib"
  • "nah, nigga, he look like all he talk about is chess 'n shit. wii big brain academy playing ass"
  • "damn straight the USA need the wolverine metal, fuck em and their robots. remember wolverine 2 bro? that old guy built a samurai wolverine gundam and got his shit rocked by the girl"
  • "when the FUCK he gonna fight somebody damn. they just ran away"
  • "Captain America beat up our own America planes"
  • "Winter Soldier came by just to rub in that he could have handled this shit in 5 minutes he isn't helping so Falcon gets killed and he can come be Captain America now"
  • random 10 minute argument where two of my friends start arguing over who betty is. "hulks girlfriend from the hulk it's the bitch from requiem for a dream" "nah that's hulk 1 this is hulk 2 it's aragorns elf bitch" "who?" "she's in that meteor movie with bruce willis" "meteor movie?" "whatever nigga shut up I think he's about to turn into the hulk." "bandito go grab another pitcher this nigga bout to fuckin GO! FINALLY!" *we send black thor to do it instead bc I say no*
  • "brooo if that nigga donald trump did this shit nobody would fuck with him again. try to SUE ME for paying off that bitch? HULK SMASH! *guffaws*"
  • *other guy chimes in* "TAKE YOUR MEXICANS BACK!"
  • "I'd vote for that. the chinese or koreans or whatever start some? president hulk could go destroy their whole country"
  • "I wish he punched that dumbass to death for being dumb enough to walk up and start talking to the hulk. captain america didn't stop or win shit this whole damn movie"
  • "I TOLD you it was Aragorn's bitch!"
  • "lowkey I thought they would show Sam was gonna straight stop his ass from smashing the Abraham Lincoln statue bc he freed the slaves once they smashed up the white house"

Hood niggas on the MCU has the potential to be the next Inside the Actors Studio or Between Two Ferns. You gotta do more of these man. I lost it at the part about Isaiah Bradley.

as the MCU has gotten worse over the years since Endgame, they've become more entertaining to watch it with. It's also sometimes unpredictable to know what will land or not. I watch every superhero thing with these dudes and sometimes something like Aquaman 2 comes out and I expect them to clown on the whole thing but for whatever reason most of them just flat out like it. we were all meaning to get together to watch Kraven last month but all forgot it even came out and existed until my friend asked last night if he missed it and we went oh shit! no we never watched it. so idk maybe in a few weekends I'll have something to say about that. we're all excited for daredevil but going to wait until the season's wrapped or at least half over. but this year should be entertaining with that, thunderbolts, fantastic four and superman all coming out. I think that black iron girl show is coming out too and I wouldn't watch that on my own time but I will with them if any of them want to because I know that will be hilarious.

I mean... Hillary Clinton was a US senator. And I most certainly do *not* have information that will lead to her arrest. Just saying.
