fed gets fired, wants to cut themselves off from anyone supporting Trump, even people they knew for over 20 years

Got axed. Not going to say which agency.

I’ve always considered myself extremely tolerant and willing to love people as they are… even if we don’t agree on everything.
I’ve never been an Orange Man supporter, but I’ve kept it civil with friends and family that were. Some of them liked having a civil conversation about him. Some were belligerent about politics, so we didn’t bring it up and tried to enjoy each other’s company.

Getting cut from a great job that I really believed in with no notice has been extremely traumatic. It’s still raw, but I feel so personally betrayed by those that voted for him. I can’t see past the politics anymore when I look at these people I care/cared about.

Some have been contrite and apologetic, but then turn around and support him and VP Musk on social media.

I just can’t right now.

I’m thinking about posting something and wishing the whole herd all of the best, hope they have a good life, but I won’t be in it. Or maybe I just quietly block all of them and focus on myself for a while.

I do know that I will need to talk to my in-laws. I’ve always had a great relationship with them, but thinking of going to their house and watching Fox News almost makes me sick.

AITAH for feeling this way? Does it make me an AH for cutting all these 20+ year relationships off? Am I overreacting and acting out of emotion?

OP gets fired for harassing a Nazi

Oh wait, it wasn't a Nazi. Just some guy wearing Trump gear

What an unexpected twist.
You know how Redditors and liberals in general love bringing up "dangerous rhetoric" and "stochastic terrorism" and all that shit? How the fuck is labelling the 70 MILLION Americans who voted for Trump Nazi's not stochastic terrorism?

Here is the defintion of stochastic terrorism
Stochastic terrorism is a type of political violence that uses indirect language to incite violence against a person or group. It's often spread through the media.

If you call someone a Nazi and then say "Punching Nazi's is okay" that is literally stochastic t terrorism.

Who among us hasn't felt the sting of inflation? And...hey, wait a second. What's this
I feel dirty for writing this, but it's not uncommon for peoples spending to increase in tandem with their earnings. Of course a sensible person would do a Warren Buffet and eat the same greasy hot dogs and drive the same shittyy cars to save on money since they don't need anything better.

But there's a lot of people who were already living beyond their means before they started earning big paychecks and their spending habits just increase with them.
Oh. OP lives in a household that makes at least 200k and owns her own house in her mid 20s. I'm pretty sure that makes her incredibly privileged, but not all is as easy as it seems. You see, OP never gets to take vacations.
Owning your own place in your mid 20s these days is VERY privileged. It was a little more common place for people born at the start of the 90s but even then it wasn't that common and required a lot of saving or parental help. The way the OP writes makes me think they got a lot of help because I assume they'd feel stupid complaining given their position if they knew how saving and living within your means worked.
Sure, she got a job right out of college making six figures, but her "role" isn't quite to her liking, which makes her basically a martyr.
We all know plenty of people making much less than that at jobs they hate, who probably have it much worse, and complain much less.

Redditors have this compulsion to milk sympathy for little up arrows. So they'll always embellish parts for sympathy and downplay others.

I was in a coffee shop once and the guy in front of me had a swastika tattoo on his neck, he was also the largest person I've seen irl.

At least 6'7 and so muscular he looked like Arnold when he won Mr Universe.

You do not fuck with the type of people willing to get a swastikas tattoo and any reddit soy claiming to have done so is LARPING.
Once I was in a bar and some spindly drip of a guy kept coming over and trying to talk to my group, he seemed desperate for friends. At one point he turned around and whipped his shirt off to show us a swastika tattoo on his back that looked like he’d done it himself.

He was told to fuck off after that but it was mostly because he was really annoying.

This is one of the big comparisons people miss when they compare what they have to what people had in the past. A family owned 1 TV, 1 car, went on 1 vacation a year and it was in the same country. They could afford to own a house because the house didn't come with 5 TVs, 3 computers, 2 cars and a selection of game consoles. All the money spent on personal gadgets and finding yourself by traveling to third world child brothels is burning money you could have invested in owning your own home. Housing is an issue and it can be difficult to find something affordable but it's not impossible if you make it your priority and work towards it. Making sensible cut backs and not chasing the Jones.

Your take is boomer tier and retarded. A median house was $47000 while median income was $21000 in 1980. Now, it's $470000 with a median income of $75000. 2.2X income vs 6X income.

Poor people also owned houses. There's always an excuse why it's boomer logic because you need to constantly spend money on non-essentials and can't make a sandwich for lunch instead. Poor people bought small homes needing repairs and fixed them up. How many of the people complaining about housing know how to change a light bulb let alone do DIY? Buying a house is a long term thing, you make sacrifices for it and no one wants to make those any more. If you spend all day on reddit complaining about the economy instead of investing that time into improving your life you get what you deserve. A new iPhone and a tranny fetish. People who aren't terminally online excuse makers find ways to get what they want.

Referencing the median home price of the US as a whole is retarded. Living anywhere outside of a major city or a suburb of a major city drops that number significantly (obviously, retard). I don't feel bad for doordash addicted retards living in Brooklyn whining that they will never own a home.

You think millennials and zoomers can't afford 480k starter homes because they own Iphones that cost like $700?

How fucking old are you?

All I can say is that you're an out of touch boomer. I hope you don't have Tyrone working as your nursing home aid because your kids want nothing to do with you.

I remember in my high school there would be black kids who would get high and just loudly talk in the hallway during classes and the teacher did literally nothing about it. Like they were afraid to confront them or knew it was pointless. Public school is shit.
Exact same experience except it was blacks, spics AND gypsies. There used to be a 16 year old gypsy in my 8th grade class (the rest of us were all 13) and the teachers always took shit from him every class he went. He always skipped school and when he didn't he'd be smoking in class and throwing pens at the retarded sped kid in our classroom. I remember he got escorted from the class by the school administrators atleast twice a month because he rarely complied when the teacher told him to leave

Gypsies should be executed. Even leftists here in yuropistan don't bother defending them. They are an abomination.

So while I agree it's gotten pretty bad in terms of wages vs house prices, this is what you should take into account. Meal prepping, not drinking soda or coffee, driving a beater, and not splashing out on fancy gadgets only get you so far if your rent is a large percentage of your salary.

Big cities are a trap. Wages are driven down by a lot of things, mainly access to cheap labor. Likewise, home prices are driven up by the excess of people vying for them. If you can, move out of the city and set yourself up somewhere smaller. There might be fuck all to do there in comparison to the infinite instant gratification available in a city, but you'll find your money goes a lot further. Bonuses include a reduction in crime, nicer neighbors (since they don't just fuck off and move after a while), access to nature and more square footage. Of course, it is a trap, so it's easier said than done to escape.

Also fuck doordash, JustEat and all the other delivery service apps, they're partly responsible for driving down the wages of delivery drivers. A once time honored teenager job is now relegated to people who barely speak the native language and steal your food when they're hungry.

Back on topic:
Whenever I have the misfortune of going to reddit, there's always a long ass thread that boils down to people arguing that corruption is impossible to root out and how Musk (who is apparently the real president of the USA) is dumb for going against it.
There's corruption and nepotism everywhere so I can understand their point of view, but it doesn't mean you shouldn't try to get rid of it. That's peak "it's too hard, I can't be bothered" talk. Which is to be expected of Redditors. For all of Musks faults, he sets goals and puts sustained effort into achieving them, with varying levels of success. And as we know there's nothing Redditors hate more than other people being successful.

I always find it funny how they portray neo-nazis etc as these horrible people, always violent, always causing issues and yet when I was volunteering at a charity shop as a teen to get experience, the skinheads and similar who would come in were often the nicest customers I had. I remember one guy (massive, bald, tattoos, the whole shebang) was in getting a really nice tea set for his mam, very wholesome.
And on the other side of the spectrum, the blacks and Indians would always try to haggle the prices (and were always rude too). In a charity shop. Where nearly everything was under £5 anyway.

Canadian visiting the us loses it after a "51st state" joke

I'm a Canadian visiting the USA for the winter. I love America. Totally love it. The weather, the people, even the "rah rah I'm AmErIkUa! best in the world" attitude. You go America. You have a lot to be proud of.

And my neighbors are the best too. But I am so sick of the "Hey you guys are going to be the 51st state soon!" "Joke". FUCK THAT. I love my own country too. Much as I love the USA, I am Canadian first and we are proudly independent. Hard as it is to wrap an American mind around the concept, there are actually people who love visiting the USA, love the USA, but do not wish to be Americans.

Would an American like to be told by say Cuba that soon the USA would be invaded and annexed? Hell no you would not.

So the other day a neighbor did the "joke" again "Bet you can't wait to be the 51st state!" and I said "that can not happen in my lifetime" he looked puzzled so I added "Because I would take up arms to defend my country and die before I let that happen." He was shocked and wandered away shaking his head.

I know he wasn't intending to be offensive and I realize I may be a bit of an AH for overreacting but damn it... that's just a nasty thing to say to a Canadian visitor.
So? Was I the AH here?

Comments are being sensitive as usual:

NTA

There are some things you don't fuck around with and right at the top of the list is a person's identity and home. There is nothing funny about the 51st state crap. You neighbor sounds like an idiot.

There's a little known fact about jokes: they're supposed to be funny. Making comments about annexing a sovereign nation is not funny.

Lol
