UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

i suppose tolerance wears thin when it's actual real life poors, on your doorstep
I used to do outreach work with the 'van dwellers' as well as other homeless in Bristol once upon a time and there's a huge variety of people. There were over 300 vehicle dwellings that we 'knew of' parked up semi permanently in shanty towns across the city. You had a lot of illegal migrants living underneath the motorway on one hand and Tarquin living it up on the Clifton Downs on the other hand. A lot inbetween were various people stuck in the lifestyle due to poor circumstances or poor life decisions.

Bristol has absolutely insane rental prices which is partly a driver of the problem, but it is also a big magnet for bums living in vans because like other homeless people, they will migrate internally to cities where they can get a better deal. Try living 'van life' in Birmingham and you'll quickly decide to move to Bristol instead. There used to be a lot more arson attacks but they seem to have abated in recent years.

I'm certain that when I head back there later this year all the usual sites will be full up. some of them have been permanent fixtures for so long they go back a few years on Street View.

Then stay and suffer, as there's nothing to hold onto other than land. Land which has been taken from us by barbarians waved in through the gates by a government that hates us. Once the fighting starts, i'll come back. Until then, I'll be chilling in my holiday home.
The man who flees his home gives his home up. Please stay in your holiday home, we won't welcome you back.

I don't mind the sentiment if it was to protect your family, but I also think this particular attitude of "you suffer, I'm gonna chill and be happy" is the epitome of weakness because its saying those who shoulder a burden are fools. It reminds me of Yukio Mishima on those who deride hero worship out of their own pathetic state. Ultimately, I don't think things are so bad as to warrant running away, and the whole "the barbarians have taken over" stuff is a sort of fatalism that makes me wince. I think if you're of that mindset, that the country is in such a state as to be almost unfixable, then you don't deserve to come back if/when things improve.

I mean the albanians are the least of the problems going on. I cannot understand why they didn't target this at Pakistan, Syria or any of the African shitholes sending their masses over here.
Albanians actually have the highest rate of criminals per capita compared to any other nationality of migrants in the UK. And Kosovo (literally just a smaller Albania) takes the number two spot. They may not be physically African, but they're definitely spiritually African.

Try watching the BBC or ITV and comeback and try and tell me about a pro-Israel bias.

This is the same week the BBC have been caught making a Pallywood “documentary” staring the son of a Hamas leader about how Palestinians are good boys who dindu nuthin wrong.
I'm just posting the links I find interesting

Farage is a strange beast but he understands the game well. So today he talked about Zelensky and said "Zelensky is not a dictator but there needs to be an election timeline." He spoke at CPAC today too which is pretty funny. I would up with it on my feed and dreaded he said something retarded. He then said people need to not take Trump too "literally" Which is true.

Also, Vance is speaking to Starmer personally next week in person which I wish I could see because he is going to rinse him on free speech. Vance is a huge advocate for free speech and the EU speech was aimed at the UK but Starmer is too dumb to read the room.

I am a dick and I am sorry.
You should be sorrier for not posting the stuff about the BBC's latest pro-Hamas move. Every news org is taking the opportunity to lay into them and Lisa Nandy has spotted a rare opportunity to win Brownie points.

Guardian
The BBC has been asked to remove a documentary about children living in Gaza from BBC iPlayer after it emerged the film’s 13-year-old narrator is the son of Ayman Alyazouri, a deputy agriculture minister in the territory’s Hamas-run government.
The corporation said that it had discovered the family connections of the film’s English-speaking narrator, a child called Abdullah, after the documentary was aired on BBC Two on Monday evening.

A new text attached to the film, Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone, reads: “The narrator of this film is 13-year-old Abdullah. His father has worked as a deputy agriculture minister for the Hamas-run government in Gaza. The production team had full editorial control of filming with Abdullah.”
The decision came after the connection was exposed in a blogpost by an antisemitism researcher, David Collier, on Tuesday and reported on in the Jewish Chronicle.

A group of 45 prominent Jewish journalists and members of the media, including present and former BBC staff, signed a letter to the BBC director general, Tim Davie, demanding the documentary be “removed” from iPlayer and questioning whether the film violated Ofcom rules.
The signatories to letter include former BBC governor Ruth Deech, Friday Night Dinner and EastEnders actor Tracy-Ann Oberman, Strike producer Neil Blair, former BBC One controller Danny Cohen and former ITV controller of entertainment Claudia Rosencrantz.
They say: “Given the serious nature of these concerns, the BBC should immediately postpone any broadcast repeats of the programme, remove it from iPlayer and take down any social media clips of the programme until an independent investigation is carried out and its findings published with full transparency for licence-fee payers.
“Can the BBC confirm it will take this action?”
The letter, which was also sent to the corporation’s chief content officer, Charlotte Moore, and the BBC News chief executive, Deborah Turness, asked whether it was known to the BBC that Abdullah – “the narrator and principal contributor of the documentary” – is the son of “a senior leader of the proscribed terrorist group Hamas”.
The letter asks: “If the BBC was aware that Abdullah Alyazouri was the son of a terrorist leader, why was this not disclosed to audiences during the programme? If the BBC was not aware that Abdullah Alyazouri is the son of a terrorist leader, what diligence checks were undertaken and why did they fail?”
The signatories also queried whether Abdullah’s parents had signed a release for him to appear, whether any members of Hamas were paid in connection with the film and whether the film required Hamas’ permission to be made. They also raised concerns about due diligence and audience disclosure.
The BBC said in a statement: “We’ve promised our audiences the highest standards of transparency, so it is only right that as a result of this new information, we add some more detail to the film before its retransmission. We apologise for the omission of that detail from the original film.”
All of the BBC’s usual compliance procedures in the making of the documentary had been followed, the BBC said: “But we had not been informed of this information by the independent producers when we complied and then broadcast the finished film.”
The documentary was produced by production company Hoyo Films, which previously made the BBC documentary, Ukraine: Enemy in the Woods, about the war in Ukraine.

Now it has been revealed that Abdullah previously appeared in a Channel 4 news item broadcast in November 2023, in which he is seen speaking about the devastation Israeli bombing has done to a Gaza neighbourhood.

He appears in the clip alongside a man presented as his father, who is now understood to be his uncle, Khalil Abu Shamala.

Shamala is reported to be the ex-director of an NGO called Al Dameer, which campaigns on behalf of Palestinian fighters jailed by Israel, and allegedly has links to a group designated a terror organisation by the US
Not going to repost those articles in full since they did not add much the Guardian one did not, just quoted the bit from the Mail that Channel 4 had fallen for similar in the past too. Basically they have completely fucked up and are trying to dodge responsibility since their claim is that their compliance procedures were followed and still somehow they ended up producing terrorist propaganda,

Nothing will happen as always.

What's that rustling in the bushes? I'm sure it's not a tiger, don't be a coward and check it out.

It's not a platitude or weakness. I'm telling you what's coming.

I don't know where you grew up/were raised, but I am giving you fair warning of what's coming. I can't PL but what has been 'fatalism' for decades has now come to fruition. There will be an Islamist Political party in the next GE, which will be a target for 'hate', while a Muslim leader slips in through the backdoor.

I view people willing to bury their heads in the sand, as they have done for decades, as the cowards who have allowed this country to go to rack and ruin. Wishful thinking that everything is A-OK soon evaporates when met with reality.

It's your lives, do whatever you want, but to judge me as a coward and a deserter, someone who doesn't deserve to return to a country they fought for, says more about how little you know about what has happened and is happening around the country. I envy your position, but it's not grounded in reality.

Well forgive me for not exactly holding your word to gospel, from all your prior posts you come off as kind of a pseud. For a recent example, you were incredibly certain of the fact there's going to be a Muslim PM, when there's no avenue in any of the major parties for such an outcome to occur. You cited Scotland, who didn't even vote for Humza, and the guy was hated and out by next year before any citizen could vote for him. Regarding another prediction of yours, I'm pretty sure you also thought 'we' were going to war at one point (I use 'we' because you're apparently at a holiday home? Somewhere in Eastern Europe if I recall) with Russia in Ukraine due to something Kier said, but now peace is right around the corner. You're 'forecasts' are predicated on there being no changes in circumstances.

It's very easy to say things are going to get worse, because you don't need to factor in change, or nuance, or the concept of improvement in general. It's also easy having such a mindset when you don't even live in the country anymore and so feel free from any suffering that may ensue. I get it, you feel intelligent by being an edgelord, but blanket cynicism and pessimism does not equal a keen intellect; people tend to grow out of that mindset when they reach adulthood and realise that.

"I'm telling you what's coming." Lmao.

Oh, I believe we are getting a shitskin PM and they will run this country into the ground quicker than Starmer. They will create a system where their rule is unchallenged, abolish the monarchy eliminate, and cut all ties with the US who are screaming at us to pull back.

For a while geopolitically I have thought China is the prelude to the last big fight and that is Muslims. They will focus on the erasure of Christian morals and values, police and local government, and then snap the trap. China needs their influence removed whilst they are weak like now but Islam will be the last one. I do not want to be in this country if that were to happen because whites would be genocided once they have all their claws sunk in.

You've linked to the Mail home page, there's dozens of different stories there. Here's a few "best of" when I clicked.
A major issue throughout Europe, but particularly in the UK, that has to be addressed is that the judiciary have effectively bullied their way into a position of superiority over the legislature. By greatly overreaching on their authority to interpret legislation they are regularly pushing the intended scope and meaning of particular laws and acts far beyond the realms of what they clearly are intended, and are doing it so shamelessly and beyond reason that I'm starting to think even the globohomo neo-lib governments are getting a bit pissed off with them.

But the important thing to take from this is that with both the judiciary and the Civil Service being infested with dedicated ideological fanatics, it won't be enough to just vote in a nationalist party and sit back in smug glee. No, there will have to be a serious conversation on the independence of the judiciary and CS, as while I'm still not entirely comfortable with the idea of shackling them, I can't deny the reality in front of me that they could well be beyond reform otherwise.

The constant blatant activist rulings that fly in the face of basic reason all because muh ECHR have proven beyond a doubt that Parliamentary Sovereignty for all it's flaws is a much better form of government than the rule by laywers having a paramount court has gotten us, the purpose of a system is what it does and all that.
I can't find it anywhere now but there were a few pieces on the Lady Chief Justice bitching and moaning that ser keith and baddienoch shouldn't dare critique the sacred judiciary, as if the "supreme court" isn't some americanized ballcocks imposed on us by "people" who hate us and want us to suffer.

I know this makes me look MATI, but I think the point of what I'm doing here is rather obvious.
I believe we are getting a shitskin PM
Who and how?
They will create a system where their rule is unchallenged
How would they do that?
abolish the monarchy
How would they accomplish this without just causes or popular support?
eliminate, and cut all ties with the US
Why?

I'm asking all these questions in a simple way because you can see that it's easy to create the absolute worse-case scenario in your head, but answering how all of these things would come about requires actual thought and research. I've already given an optimistic assessment in prior pages, but the past 30 years - when Muslims started coming here on masse alongside firearm restrictions and our speech was restricted - can just as easily be undone. The thought process for how such a process can come about is based on the changing political climate across Europe. In the UK Reform are outpolling the Conservatives and Labour, AFD are polling 2nd in Germany, the French government is in shambles because all the Leftist parties + Macron's party had to team up to keep the Right from being the main authority in their government, and Romania had to cancel an election because a Right-wing candidate won. The attempts to stop the inevitable push Rightward by trying to force the Overton window to remain firmly Left is going to cause it to snap Right to fast it'll give the elites whiplash.

A lot of our policies right now can also be attributed to being downwind of America's progs, Blaire's legacy, alongside the inorganic propping up of Leftist NGOs, which have just recently had a sizable chunk of their funding slashed. Without the whisper and allure of money to our politicians, the legitimacy and prestige they can longer project due to a lack of funds, and the false perception that this self-mutilation of our country is the intelligent thing to do finally being put to pasture, I think we're going to see good things in the not too distant future. Even Labour will be forced to see where the wind's blowing.

A rustling bush does not need to be checked. If the threat inside emerges, a Tiger let's say, and it invades my home I'm not going to say "Well fuck it it's the Tiger's home now I'm going to my holiday home in Iceland or wherever and I'll be back when Tigers have been made extinct."
