Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Prowse had the body for it, but I can't imagine Alec being comfortable going laser-fencing with a literal giant. Prowse must've held back a lot.

I doubt the props could hold up to any force. In ANH they were motor-driven rotating rods, with power cords going up their sleeves to battery packs.

The RPF has lots of information, lots of interesting behind the scenes clips where you can see original footage. Hear the morors.

huh.
I never really thought about it and just assumed it was a visual effect added in post

While TLJ was atrocious, I think TFA doomed the trilogy, and entire franchise by extension, to the point it was unsalvageable no matter who did anything after.
It was dead right at this moment:

Yep, that's me. You're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.

I feel bad for Finn. He had potential to be a character. Not necessarily a good one, but maybe have him with some notable moment. But like the rest of the franchise he was absorbed into the maw of the garlboss and became a joke.

Did you ever see the delated scene from TLJ with him and Phasma? Its somehow the best thing shot for the movie.

Not to circle this drain again, but I strongly disagree because TFA established so little. It was a poor start, but someone decent with vision could have come in done lots.

With out going over it, Episode 8 literally could have started with everything reversed based on the end of TFA. The Republic Fleet chasing down the remains of The First Order. Luke could have greeted Rey by her name and introduced her to his school of Padawans.

Nothing in TFA would go against such radical departures from Ep 8. So someone could have done something decent, the canvas was there with a few issues like no Han my booggi.

Eh, but then JJ gets to steal credit for that movie that someone else made. One thing TLJ does well unironically is show just how empty those mystery boxes are because Abrams was forced to make a sequel and it was TROS, a series of images that are played in a sequence. It sounds like I'm defining a movie, but movies put scenes together for narrative purposes, which TROS does not do. Even if you grant the Sequels a mulligan on TLJ and watch as a Duology, it's still garbage.

Sir Alec Guinness and David Prowse rehearsing for their Star Wars fight.
I was going to write a puff piece about his choreography being better than Disney Wars, then I realized that was a lie. But to Sir Alec's credit, he had the first lightsaber duel in the first Star Wars movie ever made. He gets a pass for looking a little sloppy.

Finn was set up beat for beat to be the Luke Skywalker of the ST. He's the regular young everyman who wants out of his shitty life, to find something better. Like Luke in episode IV. Luke was a lonely moisture farmer with nothing to look forward to, Finn was a lonely stormtrooper with nothing to look forward to. The opportunity for heroic adventure crosses their path and they go for it (albeit Finn more reluctantly, but Han was reluctant for most of episode IV too after all). Then Finn got tossed off to the side both for, and by, girlboss Mary Sue Rey. Friendzoned by the girl and shunted aside for the Real Hero of the Story(TM) who happens to be that very same girl. You're expecting Finn to the be hero until Rey shows up and takes over with the escape from Jakku, and Finn is beyond a doubt demoted when Han immediately fixates on Rey. Expectations subverted!

The ST would have been much better if Rey simply did not exist and Finn was the hero. He could have been the normie Hero who can't use the Force, doesn't back down anyway (like he didn't back down in TFA facing Crylo but it was meaningless because Rey is there!) and his example motivates Luke to stop being a washed loser. Together they defeat the bad guys and bring back the Jedi (again). That would have been a million times better than what we got

The scene is still retarded for phasma somehow shooting at everyone in a circle before they react to still girlboss, but has some kernel of promise.

Nah, the plot beats were already set in stone:
1. Rey is Luke's daughter.
2. The First Order have literally infinite men and material.
3. Every old character needs to die to tell Rey how awesome she is.

Do it straight or subvert it, it will suck balls.
