Even the game industry -- in which programmers who can get a better take a massive paycut to work on video games -- sees the same sort of wreckers sometimes setting literally hundreds of millions of dollars on fire. Open source video games are probably fucked forever.

There are non-tranny non-edgelord servers but they are pretty much only spread by word of mouth, and are quite small. Unfortunately the modern SS13 zoomer crowd cannot fathom the idea of having fun with less than 30 people, which causes small server devs to burn out rapidly.

Here is why your stance is gay and retarded:

1. its really easy and cheap to host a server if you have people who want to play together
2. the trannys suck and have provided an incredibly poor quality of service for years

Insinuating that the trannies are necessary, IE who 'has the free time to do it' is backhanded support for them. And then that MSO retard, who promulgated tranny BS for years, turned out to be easily replaced in like a week.

Hence the niggercattle accusations. This place you supposedly want to exist could easily exist and has existed many times over the years. You faggots could pull the plug on these people at any time but you don't. What has happened every time is extremely unreasonable demands from 'former' TG players which eventually escalate into complaints that although the server now has everything they want, its still not actually TG so they abandon it anyhow. I don't particularly want to serve you nor do you particularly want what you claim to want.

Its a really bad idea for a small server to try to be the same as other servers anyways, the best course is differentiation.

As I have mentioned before, there have been many "based" potential servers in past. They have died.

But people just refuse to consistently play on them, they refuse to make the sacrifice to actually stay on it to boost the hub player numbers when it's lowpop. They don't actively contribute to the codebase either but get bored if updates from the small team don't come out fast enough. Whereas bigger servers have hoarded most of the coders, spriters and maintainers.

It's just like this. Troons and furries both took over the reddit and the mainstream server status quos to build their networks, while also making their own dedicated furry servers when they split, they also advertised externally to bring their own demographics in. Perhaps people should take note from this.

There's also a pattern I should address - where many LRP servers have sprung up, but the administration gets burned out and changes it to MRP/closes it because they get sick of the audience. The LRP community has been filled with professional griefers, hackers and ddosers. Understandably, this filters out small management teams with less people and cash who find that players leave when faced with the bad effects, but leaves bigger servers like /tg/ intact.

Additionally, people also like the idea of a server with little to no rules, but they rarely stick with them long term. They enjoy the janny environment where their character can be the star of the show and grief others as their own special gimmick, but don't want to join a server where they have to compete with other people doing the exact same thing. People don't like to be gibbed at roundstart, they want to be the one throwing people in the gibber at roundstart, et cetera. This is why griefing roleplay servers was a tradition during the golden age.

Slow week so I'll comment on some connections between SS14 and the rest of open source happenings.

1) PJB commented on Hector Martin's resignation, expressing support. (archive) They both were quite early adopters of Mastodon, which is something I haven't seen outside of open source weirdos. Besides Bluesky everyone seems to use one of dozens of incel fediverse instance with stuff like tech.uwu.groomer.lgbt. Their posts get no engagement from what I can see. What is the appeal of the fediverse stuff?

2) SS14's 40% of top contributors being trans doesn't seem so ridiculous any more after Rust polled at 35%.

Previously the working theory was that these insane, ridiculous, unbelievable numbers were the result of Spacemans being the center of open source, ERP, furries, femstatics, etc which all fed each into each other and led to such an anomalous result. Now, with Rust, I have no explanation.
