The following quotation is from the justice department website

"has, as an element, the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by a current or former spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim, by a person with whom the victim shares a child in common, by a person who is cohabiting with or has cohabited with the victim as a spouse, parent, or guardian, or by a person similarly situated to a spouse, parent, or guardian of the victim."

This definition includes all misdemeanors that involve the use or attempted use of physical force (e.g., simple assault, assault and battery), if the offense is committed by one of the defined parties. This is true whether or not the statute specifically defines the offense as a domestic violence misdemeanor

"Persons who have been convicted in any court of a qualifying misdemeanor crime of domestic violence (MCDV) are generally prohibited under Federal law from receiving or possessing any firearm or ammunition in or affecting commerce."

As we all know he was convicted of disorderly conduct because he threatened to kill his wife and unborn child. I'm not 100% sure that is enough to qualify under this law, but if it is that means pat also committed fraud on form 4473 that you fill out when you purchase a gun (assuming that purchase occurred after the conviction date). It seems like he also would get in trouble for any ammo purchases after this date as well.

Not to my knowledge, but I am neither a lawyer nor a burgerlander so correct me if I am wrong;

Isn’t it that once one is a felon then one can’t buy new guns?

If they have legally held guns, then leave them in storage, with family or other relatives, that they were not used in the crime or on the felon’s person at the time of arrest, then they can legally keep them, and reclaim them after conviction, even after enjoying prison.

As such, provided Pat doesn’t give the police a new reason to take them, then he can go on owning the ones he has?

It has always irked me how he owns guns, considering he should be the textbook case of "made violent threats, will use a gun in the process". Wisconsin does still have the "Columbine loophole", where private sales are legal and unrestricted, perhaps that's how he got his trotters on them.

I went and looked it up on perplexity and provided the AI isn’t hallucinating, then I was wrong before.

Felons can’t own guns unless they apply for rights restoration or manage to get the felony expunged or overturned.

In Wisconsin and all states as far as I read.

It sounds like also if he did buy guns privately, while the seller would be in the clear, the felon would risk prison enjoyment and other serious consequences if caught with a gun.
