I'm sick of seeing this artist everywhere. I don't know why he disgusts me so much. Didn't this guy hang out with pedophiles? Or did he make very suggestive art with minors?

I recently came across Alexa Agienko. She redraws Rothko-esque paintings and slaps on them snobby pseudo self aware slogans like "Rothko for the middle class" or "invest in living artists not dead ones".

I just cannot bother with it. I think she, and everybody that likes that type of stuff, thinks they are smarter and above than abstract art like Rothkos. I think what she does way more pretentious than Rothko could ever be.

A 5 year old doing his rendition of a Rothko would be a thousand times more evocative and beautiful than this. Doesn't help that the color schemes ALL look like shit and muddy as hell.


i know i am biased and i dont mind. I love Rothko, i find it beautiful how his paintings manage to strip down color and shape to the bare minimal, like squinting your eyes when staring at a landscape. It doesn't have to be this pretentious thing... I don't think he's a genius- he has done what plenty of people before have done and what anybody can do.

Take the action of snapping a picture of the ground with your phone camera because the texture of the ground spoke to you. I think that follows the same principle as abstract art (and is, also, abstract art).
It's an image of interesting colors and texture, that's it. Its simplicity is what makes it so vast and rich and timeless. Personally I think abstract art like that has a certain purity.

Slapping a dumb phrase across it and pretending it gives it more complexity is so stupid, it only ruins it. It's like what Yukio Mishima means when talks about the corrosive power of words.

Great, now you have a simple looking painting with a simple single interpretation. Yawn. You could make this on excel or mspaint and id find it more interesting, if only for the novelty.

what she does is the worst type of bastardization I can think of: a boring one. It is no more original than the fucking banana taped to a wall or an Instagram liberal slideshow. What bothers me is not the shitty artwork but rather the attitude. Its so hypocritical- you can dislike Rothko art or what it stands for all you want, but at the end of the day you are earning your money selling crappy copies of it. It reeks of pretentiousness.

Take this random rothko. The colors are all over the place. I feel like I should hate it. I love it. it makes me think about a swamp, or a sunset, or a field. I love the contrast between the murkey green and the purple and the thin line of red and I love how the bright yellow looks against that dark black in the center, and the pale blue outlines. I have no idea how much work or effort that took and I honestly don't care. I wish I could be in front of this.

People like this think they are above what they critique. If they really were, they would be painting better shit than this.

pollock is way worse than Rothko IMO. i find most of Rothkos paintings very aesthetically pleasing, evocative and mesmerizing. Pollock on the other hand doesnt personally make me feel anything. I love Rothko even if he was paid by glowies. His figurative art is also really cool

That YouTube video is whatever but oh my god why does it confuse contemporary art with modern. i couldn't not care less about Felix González Torres and his literal AIDS art, but he's not a modern artist and he is not a "modernist", hes contemporary.

Where the FUCK is the artist's understanding of anatomy? Better yet, the coloring is pretty sloppy by the standards of being extremely simple. The stylization isn't even that good. It's a shallow attempt at a faux Sanrio aesthetic.

Edit: the anatomy seems stylized on purpose. The main weakness is near the blush on the rear view image. All the coloring surrounding that area on the face is ugly. It looks like there are also white artifacts or whatever, I can't put my finger on it. The eyes are also too big and simplistic, like a failed attempt at chibi eyes. Fuck the lingering sketch lines.

I think that I've seen some post the same type of implicitly devious art before, the kid (yes he had his full DOB posted on his profile which stated he was born in 2008 and was already on the gender "spectrum" before realizing what he did and deleting it) post similarly degenerate coded "cute" art in a VGM focused discord server. Aesthetics match and I can't shake the feeling this kid is being groomed, is on his way to develop a fetish or both. OpSec should be mandatory more than ever these days, I cringe every time people under 18 or even lower than 15 post their age on a public space, nowadays that's just them asking to be groomed at this point.

This has the opposite problem of the Vivziepop style. It's a cartoon with no cartooning. Except for the one where they scream, there's no exaggeration. There are a few attempts to vary the expressions and posing (you might've noticed that he used the same "both arms outstretched in the air" pose and added two thumbs up to offset it), and he tried to use lines on their torsos to indicate that they're bending this way or that way. It's just not enough. Few poses use tilting, perspective, or even line of action. Save for a few arms, everything's on the same level. Too even. The antennae are the only things not consistently stiff and straight. Overall it just looks cheap and lifeless.

It's just so literal and unimaginative. The globe is because of muh imperialism, and the African fabric is for niggers. As you probably guessed. Why can't they create anything of their own, why do they have to sneer at and bastardise European art?

The Lady Justice sculpture was made by a famous stone mason, F. W. Pomeroy, with his own hands. Yinka Shonibare is partially paralysed and can't make his own stuff and is more of a designer (fair enough), but it doesn't compare to the actual talent of having to train for years to make timeless fine art by hand. If he is a designer, he ought to have his own ideas instead of taking the piss out of famous artworks.
