I agree with you about the general lack of realism. Take Lola letting herself be date-raped, for example. Anyone dangerous enough to rape a woman is also likely to be okay with harming a man. What happens if the date rapist is actually Clifford Olsen and he decides to kill Lola before the hour she specified is up? What happens when Joji, a skinny Asian dude with bitch-tits, shows up and Leonard Lake and Charles Ng blow a hole through both of his kneecaps? Shit like this drives me insane because it suggests that, despite Fanny’s insistence that she knows what she’s talking about, she clearly does not understand the criminal mind. And this chick is proselytizing about kinky sex and BDSM to her audience!

With that said, Joji’s comment about the nullification surgeries didn’t strike me as weird - which I concede is a hilarious thing to say out of context. Really demonstrates how (let’s be polite and say) française Fanny is. I just assumed that Joji had his actual parlour and an underground chop shop. Plenty of trannies do orchiectomies by themselves or in groups. Anyone who ever worked a farm knows how to do that - in fact, I think a lot of these troons perform these makeshift surgeries in garages and barns. Ball-chopping ain’t rocket science.

Conceptually, Joji makes the most sense out of her characters in terms of "those who carry out their kinks IRL"; compared to Joji, I feel like the mere concept of a 70 year old lesbian trying to rectally destroy a young troon, on paper, is more than the suspension of disbelief can protect. Plus, extreme body modders are not that rare in the USA, and nullification as a kink definitely counts for some of them (when they tend to have overlap with the BDSM community). Cyrus as a down-home math teacher in fucking Minnesota is another stretch.

While Joji and Lola were her first - to my knowledge - publicly kink-based OCs to be released, I found it interesting that at the tail-end of her obsession with them was when Joji and Lola discussed giving Lola a clitorectomy. Shortly after that, she started making characters more focused on denial and prolapsing until finally Cyrus and Lynn were born.

The fine lassies of LCF noticed that this comic's dialogue is so generic, it could be said by any two characters, which lead to further theorizing that Fanny's getting bored with Gimpy and the Giant. Given that apparently the most up-to-date kinkery Cyrus and Lynn do is financial control (according to those who have access to her server), I'm curious if she's got anything cooking that we aren't privvy to.

With her increasing fixation on misogyny and underage content (not in terms of production, but in terms of openly declaring her interest), I wonder if her next OCs will just shamelessly ripoff Jinx and Silco of Arcane fame. the one thing that makes me suspect that fanny thinks you can just have this done in any old american hospital is the fact that, for all of her comics where lynn gets that surgery, that's exactly where she is. every scene is done in an actual hospital, with proper sterilized medical tools. fanny has also joked before that cy would pay good money for her to go to a proper doctor.

there's even a follow-up comic where cy and lynn go to the doctor and lynn's OBGYN tells her it's "ready for sex". i cannot imagine a single american healthcare provider looking at an FGM victim and using language like that without even a modicum of concern. you're not wrong in that, looking at it, joji is probably the most grounded in reality because he's not an actual surgeon.

As always, Fanny sucks at "establishing shots"; the strange and gawky lead-up to her wedding ring being described as "the object of her concern" isn't even a consequence of her being ESL. It's just bad.

Oh, so if Cyrus were to get divorced, he would stop being an active predator? Interesting take, I suppose true love really is found in the pickmes. Also, "he starts dating gorgeous women" is just too funny. Really? Overestimating the market value of fat, saggy Wasian pedophiles over here.

Oh, Lynn won't fuck men that look too "fruity"? It's always nice when renowned lesbian Fanny throws in some homophobia. Additionally, this line in particular was an exercise in ocular yoga to read it: "Do you know how many authoritative yet submissive Asian women who like kinky sex and can beat me at chess live in Minnesota?"

Fanny isn't able to write conflict very well, which means her ability to write conflicted feelings is also lacking. The BDSM thing being so necessary for either of them to get off is also frankly fucked up and weird, but we've tread such roads many a times in this thread, so I won't dwell on it much.

I know Fanny writes the United States to be some sort of free-wheeling kinktopia where dating a victim of FGM is a novelty rather than enough to make the average person's heart break, but this is just ridiculous. I also find it hard to believe she is somehow not vindictive or hostile enough to take Cyrus to court over the fact that he fucking manipulated her into removing her clitoris, but Cyrus' Imprisonment AU is apparently not in the cards. I'll have to comfort myself by watching Oz reruns.

It'd be interesting to see Lynn struggle more often with alcoholism, actually, and more interesting still to see if in her drunken state, she would awaken from Cyrus' hold on her and feel the true loss and devastation he's committed against her, but that requires giving Lynn negative feelings towards Cyrus, and all negative consequences towards Cyrus are punishable in Fanny's Mind Palace with death.

The fucking formatting! My God, it's so hard not to get MATI about it. And how is knifeplay so commonplace? I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, Fanny, but most American cities are not Folsom street fairs.

“I'm a Dom, not a self-harm enabler, alright?" Genuinely, sincerely laughed out loud at this line. The rest of their dialogue is so empty and so chock full of Millenialisms, it borderline merits not even reading it, but man, that line is beyond comedic.

Blah, blah, blah - I really struggled to read this part not just because of the formatting, but because it just doesn't make any sense for a man like Cyrus to talk like this, even to his ex-wife. Immersion-breaking at its finest.

Finally, Fanny alludes to Lynn's trauma, but she overstates how much it communicates to readers familiar with her work already. She's so evasive, it actually makes it more boring for the audience; only David Lynch fans seem to enjoy being mislead and confused about what actually happened in a story without ever being rewarded clarification.

Fanny's attempt at Sick Bantz could be used as a torture method, I think. Also, the idea that he's lost weight but Fanny doesn't reference any kind of sagging skin is a bit amusing when you know she's a turbo-chub who has dechubbed (to some extent).

The lack of dialogue tags or any action generally being described during about 90% of their conversation makes Fanny's writing extremely dull and dry, which is likely what makes it painful to read.

So basically Lynn got gang-raped by a bunch of dudes and they tortured her by ripping off her fingernails and cutting up her mouth. OK, mystery over, you'll have to find a new concept to dangle in the faces of your audience to feel like a proper writer.

"Lynn laughs– it sounds so pure, like crystal, like moonlight reflecting on the surface of a wind chime." - Fanny, like her peers who were also cornfed on fanfic, has an issue where she cannot determine when the time for detail is and when the time for detail isn't. This makes her prose both profoundly dry while getting into shades of purple because her sense of timing is extremely off. Naturally, she will never get better.

They honestly talk like they're on a Bumble date they were forced to go on by other people rather than exes of nearly 20 years.

Thank fucking God, it's over. Hope you all enjoyed the most boring conversation two depraved people can ever have. Her worlds feel so empty because Cyrus and Lynn never fucking talk to anyone else or have meaningful relationships outside of each other (and it's even obvious in how Cyrus and Kate interact). It's just monotony after monotony after monotony. Amazing, 10/10, finest writer since Tennessee Williams, etc.

Cy is noticeably thinner. Or, well, not as fat. It is brought up during the fanfiction, which I have, unfortunately, read; he is dating some instagram influencer who really likes protein shakes. The fanfic is a whole lot of nothing, though I must praise Fanny for not inflicting yet another sex scene upon us (unless she did and I immediately black-holed it); perhaps because Lynn is not underage and it is not nearly as interesting as writing a teenager having sex with her teacher, who knows.

Fanfiction's tl;dr for those who wish not to read it (which I can understand): after 18 years of marriage (and getting her clit chopped off), Lynn divorced Cy. Cy finally realizes no one will put up with his antics and angsts like a teenager, but signs the divorce papers anyway. They still remain on friendly terms, and after a while, Cy leaves to get a job elsewhere. Lynn calls him in the middle of the night because she wants to try knife play and needs guidance; Cy realizes she just wants to re-trigger herself, and drives to her place. We learn that Lynn may have killed one of the guys who assaulted her; Cy is angsty because she might have a body count and he doesn't. They agree to get brunch together. The end.

Fanfiction's tl;dr for those who wish not to read it

Brevity is the soul of wit, as they say - a good run-down for those who don't wish to read the fic itself.

That comic is abysmal, as always. Scoiattolino already mentioned the poor panel layouts and the uninspired angles, so I'll take a different tack to say that her values are way, way off, and it makes her comics that much more obnoxious to read.

Observe: when we throw this comic into black and white: her values are totally muddied, which makes the readability that much more challenging - especially for tiny panels (she never, ever gives her characters room around their speech bubbles, which is a whole separate issue).

It instantly becomes more readable - not necessarily better, but more clarified - when you readjust the values; all I did was Auto-Level them, so they weren't even fixed manually.

A lot of people use colors to sort of "cheat" making their comics look better because we are naturally drawn to colorful things as a species, and it is a separate skillset to be able to make black and white - with or without shades of gray - look good. You can end up revealing a lot about the actual legibility of art by throwing a black and white filter over it and seeing what pops out and what fades into the background.

Anyway, speaking of comics: she posted another new one! With, yet again, that same damn palette. Oy vey. Take a shot or every comic where Fanny zooms needlessly in on an eyeball to avoid having to draw anything that requires legitimate effort.

What bothers me so far about all these comics is it just doesn't make sense in terms of a story. Lynn's behavior doesn't follow any particular logic established by her character already - she's such a ride-or-die bottom bitch that it doesn't make sense for her to ever divorce Cyrus unless you have a complete rewrite of her devotion to evil, at which point she is no longer Lynn.

And Cyrus... well, Cyrus doesn't make sense either! So he'll beat her ass and threaten to kill her over having drinks with a man, but when she serves him divorce papers, he yields? This guy canonically rapes a chick in college just for the hell of it, but his mutilated wife gets to simply walk away without consequence? Not only does it make their personalities akin to Jell-O - floppy and ill-defined - but it's also just not really entertaining as a story. Who cares about stories where consequences never meaningfully take place, even in fucking AUs?

This is the trademark of any mediocre story: the characters are so weak they can barely stand on their own. Once you start questioning the story and its characters, nothing makes sense anymore (while a good story will make more sense the more you question it).
One thing I was just thinking about regarding Cy and Lynn's depth (or lack thereof): why did they study engineering and history? What made Cy want to build planes? What about history does Lynn like? This is one of their big appeal for the audience, that they are teachers, and if you know a teacher or two (or are unfortunate enough to be born into a family of teachers), you know how much they 1. make teaching their whole personality 2. have a very good reason to be teaching what they are teaching. Lynn especially did not go to college to be a teacher, but to study history. But we know nothing about what she likes about history. What's her favorite time period? What's the one she's the most annoyed about? What's her one history misconception pet peeve?
Unless Fanny reads this thread or someone asks her on neospring, we'll never get to know, because it is not the point of Lynn. Her being a teacher is just convenient for the setting of having a pedo husband who grooms their students; she could be teaching literature or even PE, it would not change anything. It's not a fetish fuel either, so it will not be explored.

This reminds me of Purplekecleon/Melanie Herring (that one chick who confessed to raping several dogs and cats because she was depressed). Back in the days, PK drew mostly using pink and purple, which the farmers dubbed "magenta hell". The values were always off, and PK just hated when people grayscaled her drawings to show how little grasp she had on using contrast and saturation to make an artpiece look good.

Even when using colors and not grayscale, using higher contrast makes a piece look a lot better and more readable.

(I spent about three minutes on SAI for this, and did not want to use too much contrast because the gradient map would have made the colors godawful. To clarify, I still think the colors look bad here, but I did not want to make it an eyesore, especially Lynn's skin, which is already as yellow as it can get)
You can get details much better when you play with higher contrasts compared to muddier colors; you can especially notice this with Lynn's hair here. This is one of the first thing you learn with coloring and rendering, I cannot believe Fanny went to art school and still do beginner's mistakes as such.

Having read that thread as one of my first introductions to the farms, she and Fanny definitely share an arrogant deviant streak. I've always found it amusing to see such overconfidence in blatantly mediocre work, but something about specializing in pornography makes a lot of artists especially comfortable in being talentless hacks.

A look at many of Fanny's mutuals will find they focus mostly on the display of their kinks rather than any actual illustrative skill, and all I can wonder is: damn, if your family and employers found this, wouldn't you at least want them to say "I hate looking at it and consider you a deranged pervert, but at least it's technically well rendered"?

Which is amusing for several different reasons:

• If you view the comments on her fics, Fanny is notorious for not engaging with her readership; the fastest way to ensure people remain uninvested in your works, as a creator, is to disregard the attention you receive;
• Her fics actually showcase her writing in a worse light than her episodic comics do; and
• Her comics retread the same fucking thing her fics do.

Case in point: enjoy three comics released in the Divorce!AU, all of which depict scenes featured in the Kintsugi fic I posted the readalong to.

Not much of a point in reading her fics if she's just going to put them in comic form anyway, especially because comics are notoriously easier for people to access as opposed to literature. (Ask anyone with dyslexia and they often find comics to be their main gateway to reading, which makes sequential art as a subject something more people ought to take seriously.)

Such inconsistency indicates to me that Fanny has certain levels of darkness she is either disinterested or uncomfortable with going past, so she will make concessions here and there the more she becomes invested in Cyrus and Lynn. This happens to a lot of writers who set out to write despicable people: the more attached they become, the softer the rendition, as if they fear what it would mean to love someone - or something - beyond redemption. It seems to me the only reason Fanny is writing her fics in the first place is because she is too lazy to do long-form comics. She always feels so unenthusiastic in her writings, all the more showcased by, as you said, her lack of engagement with her readers. From what we've been reading about her, she does not strike me as the type to edit her works either, but instead just posts her first draft after MAYBE correcting the typos.

hard agree that fanny is just too lazy to do longer comics. this is also why almost all of her writing and fics are snapshots of very short scenes between cy and lynn...she doesn't actually know how to do proper transitions between scenes, and short comics (as well as "one-shot" writing) make this entirely unnecessary.
the funny part is, she did have (technically) a long-form comic going with her dad/daughter persona and LIMERENCE. that said, that comic was just as awful and hard to read as her other work, so not much of a positive sign.
