I recently lost a friend over politics. And the answer to your question is that he wasn’t always a lunatic. He used to be a regular dude who was always right leaning. He even voted for trump the first go round. Then Covid hit and he went insane. There literally is no position too far left for him now. I have no idea how that happened. But I didn’t cut him off because A: we had been friends for about 15 years at that point and B: I had hope that if we just didn’t talk politics he would eventually come back to reality. But after the inauguration he blocked me and another buddy’s numbers and that was that.

I had a leftist “friend” in high school who always gave me shit over my politics and religion, yet I never gave him shit for his opinions. This is how leftists are. They are so into their cult that anyone outside of the cult is an enemy. So honestly, fuck all of em.

That money is long gone, and the Ukrainian economy will be fucked for a long time from the war, assuming they can avoid getting gobbled up by Russia. Trump can still demand it, but it'd be the equivalent of asking a homeless guy to pay you back for money you gave him to buy a bottle of wine.

On topic, I had kind of an internal monologue recently about the left in America post-2024. A lot of them really, genuinely believe the past five years were a good thing. You could tell them how there are Hurricane Helene victims still living in tents and freezing to death right now, but they will laugh at you because it's not "real" to them because the man on the TV didn't tell them about it. And they weren't told about it deliberately, too - because that wouldn't be politically convenient and would hurt Biden/Harris/the DNC. Can't care about your own while you shove money into a black hole like Ukraine.

I also thought that if someone wants to double down like this after the horror show of the past five years, then that person is beyond help. Nothing going on in their heads - just robots and drones sitting in front of the TV. My internal monologue turned into an angry rant in my head calling them ants and lemmings, and I realize as I'm typing this that I cannot let this rile me up and have it turn into some animalistic rage as well. It can be hard to keep a cool head when you see this from them every day of your life and realize NPCs really aren't "individuals" when you stop and think about it. - When you are well and truly outside of mainstream political discourse in America, it's really kind of bizarre to watch these people who are deeply ignorant and don't realize how ignorant and cookie cutters of each other they are. And if you do say something, prepare for them to say the most vile things to you.
