The price of gold in Ft. Knox is totally unrelated to the value of USD. The dollar is a fiat currency and has been for over 50yrs.

So if you take that into account the $42.22/Oz doesn't hold up. You have to use today's market price. (147,300,000 x 2896.51) = 426,655,923,000. 426.6 Billion USD at market value.

The annoying thing is that even if Ft Knox only has half the gold reserves, that's just under $1T at market value, and the total amount of US currency in circulation is over $2T.

Kinda would make it tough to go back to gold backed currency, unless we doubled the amount of gold, the gold market doubled in value, or we devalued the Dollar by 50%.

I'd like to go back to gold too, but we've really fiated things up.
