This isn't to say that democracy is le bad or anything. It's one of the few systems in place that has shown to work pretty well
I'm reminded of Churchill's quote, "Democracy is the worst form of government, besides all the others that have been tried."
Late and gay here, but I think taking the "Day One" initiative at face value, and believing that anyone can realistically complete in even a month, is disingenuous
I mean yeah, it was snarky, I'll own that. On a real note, my frustration is not that he didn't literally take action on day one, but that his team has, so far, been very transparent and upfront with their strategies for tackling a lot of the issues he's campaigned on, and so far has, very noticeably, neglected to put anything out about those issues I mentioned. It's odd enough to be noticed because it is such a stark departure from his administration's transparency so far.
I do hope post-Trump, we get more candidates that are more focused on removing the power of the Federal government while still maintaining the integrity of the Constitution.
I mean that's my genuine hope, too. As I said, my primary concerns are not his policies, most of which I agree with on principle (some I absolutely do not), but instead with perpetuating the executive arms race. I understand the argument that has been made here and elsewhere that we can't win if we play fair while they play dirty, but it's not that cut and dry. THE original civic nationalist, Cincinnatus, taught us this lesson over two thousand years ago when he assumed direct authority, resolved the issues plaguing the Republic of Rome, and immediately relinquished his power and went back to farming. There is precedent to have your cake and eat it, too, but I just don't trust Trump to do that. Above all he's an egomaniac. I have no confidence that towards the end of his term he will instruct Congress to limit his power so that future presidents have less overreacting authority. If he doesn't, I'm concerned that if the Republicans lose in 2028 we'll have a Democrat with the hammer that Trump helped build, and that the Democrats will be out for blood.
especially coming from you since you've been pretty articulate & good faith compared to some of the posters here who have negative opinions of Trump
I appreciate the kind words.
It is my genuine opinion that RFKJ's raw food schizophrenia and charisma could genuinely help here. Assuming that there isn't price fixing going on (the DOJ should make sure of that, by the way), there's an obvious deal that can be struck here.
My plan, which probably wouldn't
dramatically reduce egg prices, but very well could help some, is to drop the requirements for USDA graded eggs to be washed. The government could work a backroom deal with producers and grocers where they will drop this requirement so long as the cost saved on not washing and not refrigerating the eggs are passed on directly to the consumer. Additionally, this would make it easier for independent broilers to get on grocery store shelves.
