It's a national pride thing. Deep down people know that all the supposed benefits of Western Hegemony haven’t panned out, but the average person isn't ready to have that conversation yet.

They remain bound by the rusty chains of boomer era thinking: the idea that slashing taxes and backing dictators is the way forward.
