UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I feel like I am living in fucking clown world...

I am in the city too I will contribute to the racism secretly of course. Btw income tax to go up by 2% but Mervin King wants it at 25%... Lunacy

I miss Burney's... there was no need to be racist there. They did a lovely white cake.
It's Trump so his opinion will change with the next strong breeze, but Starmer seems to have handled this well.
He figured out you can get Trump to say whatever you want to hear if you dazzle him with enough bling.

Burney's always did a nice sausage roll. I think the one back home is a pound bakery now, Richmond's floor sweepings in hydrogenated vegetable oil "pastry"

The only chain bakery I will buy from is Gail's, because it sounds like Gaels, our Celtic forebears. Greggs sounds suspiciously Germanic.
I like their ciabattas. I'm not a massive fan of bread with stuff in but if you want to thrill the easily impressed at a dinner party, they've got some interesting loaves you can toast up to serve with soup.

Confession time: I've never so much as set eyes on a Gail's, I'm 2 hours from the nearest one and just said it for the bit.

Now when it comes to delicious bread, Booth's (the Waitrose of the north) is the place, they do a delicious potato and rosemary sourdough.

You live here? You pay taxes, you contribute? Fair game- If not? Then fuck off.
That's great if the government would like to pay back the state pension contributions and some compensation for renaging on the contract.

30 years of contributions is the requirement today to obtain the full state pension, the meager stripend that it is. Many Brits have been forced to pay into this scheme from the time they were 14, knowing full well they would make a net loss but doing so with confirmation from the government that they would pay out come a date.

If any other pension provider changed the terms of at what age you could provide it, or insisted you live in a given geographic radius they would be paying out lots after a quick bout of lawfare.

Yes. Yes it should pay the pension, at the age initially agreed. Not just because I'm not 20 and mad at people who have already worked and sacrificed to get what little they have, but because the lunacy and broken promises in this area is killing what little remained of the economic worker left wing in the UK.

I know when we talk about lefties on here we are talking about neon haired facists who want to enable child mutilation and insist we recognise their identify as a Llama. And its a shame that "wanting a support system for the destitute" and "supporting a common pool of resources all contribute to" transformed into "We must sacrifice our own wellbeing to the third world and people who hate us as an act of guilt inspired martyrdom".

Look at the Reform membership counter. They've been around five minutes and they're the UKs second largest party. They're not actually far off Labour's own membership count.

That should be terrifying to a left wing person. And doing insane shit their original base of support couldn't possibly hate them any more for doing, like fucking over the pensions, the heating allowance while Labour MPs are claiming heating allowances and buying personal crystal wine glasses on state expenses (well done Mr Foreign Secretary) while people were freezing to death after their heating allowance was taken away.

You're angry about people claiming a fucking pension after leaving to make way for the beautiful and empowred economic migrant horde of "children" fleeing war in France draining the nation dry while your idols are claiming free heating while on 90k a year?

Fuck you.

Speaking of job, while I get a fuckton of hours I'm glad to be doing so even if it means I no longer have much free time. Hopefully if it all kicks off I'll have enough to get myself and my family out of here before Stazimer orders that both British natives and their property now belong to the state and will be redistributed to the 'new' British or something.

You don't even have a plain loaf, yous are all savages. No Mother's Pride, no civilisation.
Morton's crispy morning rolls is all I have to say to that

I went to my first Booths the other week. Wasn't impressed. Crappy store, decrepit, and torn faced cranky staff. I'll stick to ordering on Ocado,ta very much.

Starmer is a retard, and a homosexual one at that. His IDF handler beard is fooling nobody. Freedom of speech so long as you never mention paki rape gangs and the mass import of liars and quislings.

Anyone read about the migrants camped in Manchester city centre in tents? Here "legally" but refusing to house themselves, and have made themselves voluntarily homeless in refusing to look for homes, setting up in tents on the expectation it'll net them social housing places.

We need to start gunning down the dinghies before the reach our shores.

Honestly, once I am qualified in my ACCA I am considering going to Poland or Bulgaria in like a year. As for April, it is when the new PAYE changes come in and it will be catastrophic. 2/3s of employers asked have said they are laying people off or freezing. The SMEs are going to be decimated employers are looking to pay about £100s a month for eligible paye recipients. I am glad I backed out muh NHS because that sector is petrified. Talked to a few local care managers and they are gutting staff.

Ignoring the sperg for a second Starmer reckons we have free speech and he’s proud of it.

Lmao.

He imprisoned people for protesting stuff he knew to be and is now proved to be true.

And openly called for the people talking about it to be arrested/fined or censored.

How he answered the Southport stabbing will forever stand in oposition to his statment.

And Musk knows all of this.
