Link? I can't "hover over bars for values."
The discourse about generation runts is annoying.
100% agree wanted to post the membership stats as a way of showing that what a lot of people talk about with regards to some members being "runts" doesn't really pan out that way reliably because there's so many different metrics and avenues where a talent will be successful even if another metric looks bad. But that ability to cite just specific info to try and say X talent is failing because they are low on this one metric" is how numberfags thrive because they can just selectively choose which metric to focus on to suit whatever narrative they want to push.
The ID stats are brutal, double considering the rupiah's low value.
on one hand ID has the unique situation where a lot of ID viewers are accustomed to supporting through non-traditional means using streamlabs type donations because for years ID didn't allow normal youtube monetization like superchats, it's available now but still ID viewers are going to tend to stick to what they are used to and donate in their usual ways. That being said talents like Moona do talk like they aren't earning well, after Zeta moved to Japan someone asked Moona if she'd consider doing the same, and Moona said if she did she would end up having to work a part time job in Japan to cover her expenses because her streaming revenue wasn't enough.
Suisei is last for SC's, successfully re-directing her fans to support her more directly.
I'm actually surprised to see Mori still sits as highly as she does on superchat rankings, she pushed for them a little bit at the start of the year doing streams to fund the cost of the go getters MV, but following that she kept them disabled for about 6 months straight, and after starting to turn them back on again, she started her fromsoft heavy arc playing through the Elden Ring DLC, all 3 souls games, and Demon Souls, all of which can't be monetized and superchats have to be disabled. Which has shifted a lot of her heavy donators into instead gifting memberships which along with her being strongly consistant on making sure to provide 3 membership streams a month + wallpapers has contributed to her strong membership retention.
I can only imagine merch sales and total membership numbers being of any use for vtubers with CCV, SC and subs being ancillary information.
Well it all matters at the end of the day, well at least SC I would still say carries some weight. Subs and CCV can be auxilary but are part of what I would say is a more important metric which is contributing to VOD views which create another passive revenue stream. On the importance of memberships, at least from Mori's statements it does seem like there is, not a pressure, but an incentive on the backend, maybe from UM, or maybe from Cover, where Mori has talked about how her reaching new all time high membership counts is able to open certain doors for her (she was never clear on what exactly it meant just that there was something on the backend that is made possible for her with continued membership growth)
All of this post is just kind of a longwinded way to say, like I did at the start of the post, there's a myriad of metrics that contribute to talents being successful, and falling short in one doesn't mean they aren't thriving in another despite how often discourse seems to imply otherwise.
