General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Was fun while it lasted

In happier news that doesn't make you want to crush a turk roach underfoot, Meemaw is streaming some Monster Hunter.
Someone just told her that she can put tear marks on her cat thing after she spent some time making it look like Sad Bee and she read the super chat immediately after she finalized it lol.

And spring is coming which means Sena Bonbon should be coming out of hibernation.

I really like Holofight Z I still consider Flavr to be one of the greatest fan art projects. The fact that any of them are still around is impressive.

also after the discussion about sub counts for various members in different gens and whatnot surrounding Cecilia, ran across this and thought it was good to kind of illustrate why fixating on subscriber counts isn't great and don't reflect whether or not someone like Cecilia is doing well among her gen.

Observable membership counts for each member showing Cecilia on top of her gen and pretty well up their among the rankings in general. Fauna was much the same. "runt" of her gen in terms of subs, but on top in terms of support. Things are rarely as simple as any one metric (and is why numbermonkeys deserve the rope in most cases)

Of course this is going to be underassuming as it's only reflective of members who actively appear in chat so everyone will actually have more than the listed number because folks are naturally going to have lurking members that don't chat. But the relative rankings ought to remain more or less the same as there isn't much reason for there to be a notable difference where one person has some disproportionately high number of lurkers compared to someone else.
Link? I can't "hover over bars for values." The ID stats are brutal, double considering the rupiah's low value.

The discourse about generation runts is annoying. To muddle the waters further (Name / Affiliation / Sub gain / discription)

Ai and Marine are the most relevant entries here - Marine hardly streams anymore because of her throat but obviously people keep subscribing. Maybe it's Kumorine or any of the non-streaming work she does. The reductive Super Chat = popularity metric became obsolete and now it's a rush to rank people another way. As an aside, I am sure even Cover talks stats but I hope Aki finding numeric success after so long chills lame short term pressure.

The only supa/memba info I reguraly find is the Hololyzer summarylyzersum - Copy.webp
Suisei is last for SC's, successfully re-directing her fans to support her more directly. I can only imagine merch sales and total membership numbers being of any use for vtubers with CCV, SC and subs being ancillary information.

Also, Riona suposedly was flamed but her member numbers are high. Good to see.

Because the first thing *I* do after trying to kill myself from my hospital room is talk about it in verbose detail.

She is full of shit.l
I was willing to give her the benifit of the doubt that she quit due to health/stress, and didn't feel the need to update everyone on her near death, because she was already off social media, wasn't ego searching, didn't expect the news to leak etc.

But after her return, where she is supposed to be in a bettter place mentally, suicide baiting? She is either sympathy baiting, or so fucked up she is beyond saving.

I will never fault someone for deciding they don't want to do something anymore, especially if they communicate it. I WILL fault someone who pulls shit like this. She us an attention whore who at best cuts for attention and at worst is a lying psychopath. I hope if she is in a hospital that they commit her, because she clearly isn't fit for society.

100% agree wanted to post the membership stats as a way of showing that what a lot of people talk about with regards to some members being "runts" doesn't really pan out that way reliably because there's so many different metrics and avenues where a talent will be successful even if another metric looks bad. But that ability to cite just specific info to try and say X talent is failing because they are low on this one metric" is how numberfags thrive because they can just selectively choose which metric to focus on to suit whatever narrative they want to push.

on one hand ID has the unique situation where a lot of ID viewers are accustomed to supporting through non-traditional means using streamlabs type donations because for years ID didn't allow normal youtube monetization like superchats, it's available now but still ID viewers are going to tend to stick to what they are used to and donate in their usual ways. That being said talents like Moona do talk like they aren't earning well, after Zeta moved to Japan someone asked Moona if she'd consider doing the same, and Moona said if she did she would end up having to work a part time job in Japan to cover her expenses because her streaming revenue wasn't enough.

I'm actually surprised to see Mori still sits as highly as she does on superchat rankings, she pushed for them a little bit at the start of the year doing streams to fund the cost of the go getters MV, but following that she kept them disabled for about 6 months straight, and after starting to turn them back on again, she started her fromsoft heavy arc playing through the Elden Ring DLC, all 3 souls games, and Demon Souls, all of which can't be monetized and superchats have to be disabled. Which has shifted a lot of her heavy donators into instead gifting memberships which along with her being strongly consistant on making sure to provide 3 membership streams a month + wallpapers has contributed to her strong membership retention.
I can only imagine merch sales and total membership numbers being of any use for vtubers with CCV, SC and subs being ancillary information.
Well it all matters at the end of the day, well at least SC I would still say carries some weight. Subs and CCV can be auxilary but are part of what I would say is a more important metric which is contributing to VOD views which create another passive revenue stream. On the importance of memberships, at least from Mori's statements it does seem like there is, not a pressure, but an incentive on the backend, maybe from UM, or maybe from Cover, where Mori has talked about how her reaching new all time high membership counts is able to open certain doors for her (she was never clear on what exactly it meant just that there was something on the backend that is made possible for her with continued membership growth)

All of this post is just kind of a longwinded way to say, like I did at the start of the post, there's a myriad of metrics that contribute to talents being successful, and falling short in one doesn't mean they aren't thriving in another despite how often discourse seems to imply otherwise.

Anyone else notice that Nimi hasn’t turned superchats on?
Is there a certain level of drama involved with superchats or something? I can’t fathom throwing away a source of revenue generation for no reason. The only way I could think why someone would leave that option off would be depending on the type of content they were doing to avoid interruption or if they had legit schizo/stalker paypigs that were just mentally annoying to have to put up with all the time.
