I’ll add my thoughts on the game itself after I’ve reached endgame but, regarding performance, it’s pretty sad that some schmuck on the internet found a fix like https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterwilds/mods/127 - which gave me (and plenty of others) a noticeable boost in fps amount/stability - in the first week of release. As much as we shit on bad western dev code at least they have the excuse of DEI hires, I expect a better product from high IQ japs! IMG_0519.jpeg
Also some real stanky EN VA, I can’t imagine not playing w/ the JP VA w/o going insane.

Jap ports being bad has been a thing for as long as I can remember. What makes this case unique is the consoles also performing like ass. Look at the OG Dark Souls port for example, the original release of Ys VIII in the west was a shitshow, the Nioh ports all things considered are pretty bad, etc.

Oof don’t remind me of that DS1 PC port, enough to make a grown man yak when down in blight town. Nonetheless, PC was a much smaller percent of the market at the time so I can at least understand why so many ports of the era (Japanese or otherwise) were terrible. Further, many of those listed JP studios were/are smaller when compared to their western counterparts and/or were releasing smaller titles. With that in mind, the fact Capcom fumbled the performance on their golden goose this badly is something I find shocking.

Is there an idiot's guide to Light Bowgun stats, their ammo types and so on? I'm in complete information over load looking at the equipment menu, even without factoring in stuff like whether or not I can reload on the move, etc.

Time really is a flat circle, isn't it? Wilds is going to be a repeat of World and DS1, rough ass launch but modders will swoop in to fix their fucking broken code and DRM.

I don't know why Capcom is so hostile to modders when they're the ones making their games functional, it geniunely makes me hate corporate even more than I already do.

Yeah I got about a 10-20fps boost with this mod. My average fps went from about 60-70's to 80-90's. They still haven't fixed some of the random crashes. Some sessions I get a crash after a hour or so while other times I don't crash at all after hours of straight play. Just unpredictable. Sucks that AMD takes it's sweet fucking time pushing driver updates, can't rule that out yet.

I'm sure they hated modders before the Naked Chun Li incident, but that seems to have really enraged them.

Mods won't fix shit if the issue is on an engine level, but hopefully the mods working does mean the game can be salvaged later on.

I remember reading a steam post, forgot what it said exactly but basically it said "imagine the initial embarrassment, now imagine the embarrassment for starting a mod apocalypse for Capcom titles because you were too much of a coomer."
And I doubt they "hated" modders, but they probably saw them as a nuisance since why would PC users buy skins when they can download better skins for free, among other things. Doubt anything changed but now they have a """better""" justification to crack down on mods.

They'll improve it, yes, but they can't fix engine problems like @Endless Torment said. They couldn't "fix" engine issues for World, they sure as hell can't fix shit for a game probably more hostile to advanced modding than World. The most world got were performance and general tweaks as well as some utility mods (if we're going by just "fixes"), Rise barely got shit, Wilds won't be different.

My guild card so far, I've never pushed this hard in a week in any previous installment, it usually takes me years to push any single weapon over 100 and here I am doing it in the first week.

The weird thing with Rise (From my personal experience, I could be a complete outlier for all I know) is that it only got issues AFTER Capcom forced it's Enigma DRM down player's throats.

It was running pretty ok on my old 1660ti, now it stutters like an autistic child on my 4070Ti Super, thanks Capcom!

I originally ran through Rise on high settings on a 1070 before I upgraded and had little to no frame drops having a video or something open on the other monitor at the same time. Post update, noticeably worse performance on a 3060. It's been years, but I'm tempted to see how my 4070 Super does with their shitty DRM now haha

Wouldn't be surprised. It was made a single Russian dev who somehow managed to convince Capcom that he was a team based on...somewhere not Russia, so optimization is not exactly there even if that solo developer was great as his job. He seemed content to argue with people over all mods being cheats or something so eh. They signed the contract so whether or not they know now doesn't matter too much it seems.

It's been years
It's not that old, it was this time 2021. Two years of vanilla, two years of Sunbreak(and I don't think alot of people played that long in either since they were so critical of wirebugs n sheeiiit). I suspect they pulled the DRM eventually because it runs painlessly for me on a pretty old card.

The worst part of the game was the 15 minute walk and talks where I just sat down my controller and watched a youtube video because you can't skip it, I just want to kill monsters I don't care about some gay little brown child.

(Please ignore the bow I never actually used it, it was just in my second weapon slot)
Insect glaive is probably the easiest weapon I've ever used, even without it I mostly retard my way through monsters and I've killed them all without ever failing a hunt, even the tempered monsters, sometimes I cart failing a greatsword counter though.
I think a big part of the ease is the palico, they just have all their tools and anytime I end up in a bad spot the vigorwasp is back and they zip over and heal me to near full before I even stand back up. The hunting horn also feels really strong if someone has it.
