Hadn't checked in on Nick in a few weeks, decided to pop in to specifically see if he had relapsed yet. It's truly just a matter of time. His narcissism, manipulative dishonesty, inability to admit mistakes or that he has a problem, general outlook, not changing his living situation or those he spends time with, and failure to seek help are all massive red flags.

I hope he doesn't for the sake of his family, but having seen a relative with many of the same flaws and personality issues that blew through a lesser though still sizable amount of money remarkably quickly, I can't imagine Nick truly kicking any habits.

He'd have had to quit in the first place to relapse. He's been pretty obviously intoxicated repeatedly. I think the most he's done is try to slow down a bit at least for public appearances so he isn't obviously spazzing out, gurning, and ranting and raving like a total cokehead.

But the reason he hasn't had many public appearances is that's when he's wasted out of his mind. He's exploiting his window before sentencing to do as many drugs as he can.

What is truly egregious is that Nick sincerely thinks he did nothing wrong. He lied under oath to the judge when he stated he was guilty of the crime and believed he was indeed guilty.

What his thing is is that he doesn't think cocaine should be illegal, and he doesn't think he did anything morally wrong. His responses to the judge's questions acknowledges technical guilt, which is the only thing the court gives a shit about. He believes he is in violation of the statutory law, because he absolutely is, and even he knows it.

I agree he's scum, but he's actually not legally required to like the law he broke, much less be remorseful for doing so. Though it would help him at sentencing and make him less of a piece of shit in the eyes of many.

The fallout from how he's handing all this is gonna be more social than legal.

Now if he starts claiming there were no drugs at all, between now and sentencing (that is to say, he backtracks on his admission of technical guilt), then he's got a big ass problem that could torpedo this whole plea deal.

In the end, I fully support the First Amendment rights of lolbertarians to spew their ridiculous bullshit because, if I didn't, I'd be pissing in the milk.
