I think a big issue with that is over diagnosing.
Some people are just apathetic. That doesn't mean they're disabled, they don't need drugs. Doctors prescribe a drug to fix a personality trait instead of a symptom and that's what makes people zombies. Sure if it helps genuinely depressed people fine, cool, go for it but not every single person that shows little emotion is a mental case that needs medication.
I was put on anti depressants as a kid and an adult and it made me less happy because I was just always apathetic.

It isn't just the drug, we know very, very little about the brain. We learn more about it through these studies by trying to help people. If it doesn't work, I totally agree they should stop. But usually, the only purpose of an ssri should be to make you have enough energy to do something. That's why the suicide label is therr, people often don't have the energy to take their life if they're that depressed.
Depression used to be called depressive schizophrenia, I wish it was still called that, because true depression is an incredibly serious condition. You do hear voices, they sound like yours but aren't, it's like the disease itself is alive, it feels like.
