Battlefield General - Discuss the series here

Just by the gameplay, it's clear that it's back to what made BF what it is. No more "fighting against climate change" bullshit.
DICE has progressed so much that the relearned how to introduce scoreboards to a game on launch
I think Zampella saw how pozzed DICE became and now most of the game is being made by his other studios.

Some gameplay and UI shots coming out. From Reddit.Personally I'm looking forward to it.
I know it's pre-alpha, but I don't like the reused UI of 2042. Character models and gameplay mechanics looks like the next Battlefield is going back to their roots from the original formula.
in it all the characters are classic military and not any sort of characters so hopefully they'll either be entirely back to not having characters or there will be picks for milsim:
What will the next Battlefield monetize if they're committed to the military theme? Map packs and shortcut kits are obsolete now.

What will the next Battlefield monetize if they're committed to the military theme?
I mean, there's a fuck ton of potential to monitize real world gear. Hell let loose and insurgency have cosmetic transactions. Nothing nuts like the amount on the cod shop but still. Even ghost recon games lately have actual branded gear in the game too

Even with all the bullshit that happened with 2042, there is still that small part of me that is wanting them to be able to turn this around and hoping that this game actually turns out good.
Seeing this footage does spark a tiny bit of excitement from me.

The one thing that I definitely am still not doing and never doing for any other videogame is pre-ordering now matter how good this looks, or even ordering on day one.

I will wait for reviews from all the Battlefield youtubers before I touch this.

This is extremely unlikely, but I would love a Bad Company 2 esque expansion for the next Battlefield. Maybe the Korean War.

Speaking of Bad Company, veteran writer David Goldfarb believes his Bad Company 3 script would've "hit close to home" given the recent tensions with Russia and the US today. You be the judge.

I always felt that they should have delved into the cold war like Call of Duty did.

There are so many areas that they can cover for it, the Korean war, the Vietnam war, the Soviet-Afghan war, the Falklands war, etc.
Honestly a lot of the small-scale conflicts of the Cold War and 90s would work well with the "war stories" campaign BF1/V did.

Also, they did delve into Vietnam, twice.

Parts of it look promising, but still, no pre-order. I'm sure I played 2042 more than most, but it wasn't an ideal Battlefield and did a lot of things wrong. No specialists, relatively modern setting and destructible environments are definitely a good start.

Using only real military uniforms for outfits would be great - it's something I wanted since BF2, though I would also gladly accept everyone on each faction having to wear the same uniforms again. Fuck, it would be refreshing not to see demons, anime characters and Snoop Dogg running around with weed-skinned guns. 2042's skins were pretty tacky and hodge-podge.

Wouldn't be hard for them to add more guns either. They should put in stuff like the XM7/M7 the Army is testing for example.

I don't like characters shouting without explicit player's command. I thought it was annoying in BF3 and it still is here,

played some BF2042 today, im honestly starting to believe while EA being a bunch of greedy retards is a major factor in the series general downfall the main factor is actually the Community, like its been an issue since like BF4 but a bunch of CoD Kids have been flooding into other games and play like its CoD making the entire match unfun for whoever they face, too many kids under the age of 20 have this tryhard mentality as to where they take every game, even matches that are unranked like its a CoD match, it really does piss me off
It's been a thing since BF3 and 4, just much more prominent now. I don't think it's as simple as "CoD kids", there's always been metaslave sweats. I played BF4 through its life cycle and recently started playing again, not much has changed except the amount of pre-made squads made up of sweats.

The AEK was prevalent back then, it still is now (somehow on non-cancer "no fun allowed" servers I've seen them less than back then), bunny hopping was prevalent back then, still is now, vehicle tryhards were very prevalent back then, still are now.
It's just video games in general being more popular & things like YouTube and twitch making learning the sweatiest, most souldraining min-maxed optimized way to play very easy to learn.

yeah, just let me be a bigger target than dolphin-dive as a medic with paddles (and if you use smoke there's no fucking need to drag people around). the game is way too fast for that kind of "tactics".

that's why I have no hope for any BF anymore. all those surface level changes no one really needs and asks for (unless they want to copy tarkov like another chinese clone did..), battlefield worked best when the formula was simple. it's similar to CS, imagine CS3 has leaning, sliding and prone, more is always better, right?
battlebit and delta forces showed you only need a solid enough game that isn't total ass, how fucking hard can it be to design a basic bitch battlefield without "redefining" it or tacking on shit that distracts from the main attraction?

imo depends on the game and how it fosters that gameplay. you could try to curb it, but that would lead to immediate whining by their "influencers" and sweaty e-sport tryhards because those are the people they think make people play the game, not the fun of the game itself. western designers simply suck, blizzard drove a whole cashcow into the ground this way. remember dice couldn't even properly do team balancing for fucking decades even when there were obvious mods since 1942.

I also want to see the maps first, even their best maps had still glaring design issues with obvious chokepoints in the wrong places. enjoy your fucking baserape (something else they never bothered to fix or figure out to curb, even when it was often just a simply map change).
