I once had to read a psychology paper about different paraphillias. The paper covered pedophilia. This was like 11 or 12 years ago when I was in college, studying abnormal psych so I can't source it. In the paper it said that some pedophiles will hold a certain child on a pedestal, and not do anything to them. Yet will do things to other children. It's some kind of fucked up morality system, to try to justify themselves. As holding that one child as "sacred" means they can control the urge, yet obviously they cannot as they prey on other children. Abnormal Psych was an interesting field to go into but the maths got me to lose my grant and I dropped out, to the disappointment of my professor, who pulled me aside at the end of the semester and told me I had great promise in the field, if I decided to go further in my studies.
