"Zero Punctuation" and "Dev Diary" by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw - The only thing worth watching on The Escapist

I think one of the comments describes this review perfectly. Yahtzee has entered "dad mode". Meaning he dosent have time or energy to invest in a games story, want the gameplay to be as simple and brain dead as possible to numb the pain of being a full time dad. he dosent want to have to think or pay attention to the game. He simply just has to play it.

The fact he didn't like Baldur Gate 3 for setting standards "too high" made me genuinely upset and he doesn't even like CRPGs.

Yeah, Sseth summed that point up pretty well in his starfield video

Isn't this his job? I'm a full time dad yet somehow I can have a successful career AND play some immersive shit that requires a lot of time to finish. I just now finish it in like six months instead of two, but I still like it.

His taste in games has always been "questionable" but it seems to have gotten worse over the years. Gotten more lazy too.

Look at the fucking disingenuous faggot praising Avowed for having cardboard cutout NPCs and suddenly thinking immershun is ale bad thing when previously he bashed Oblivion for being "one of the least immersive RPGs I've ever played" and praising Skyrim for being organic. His biggest argument for the game is "I was having fun", which is in the same league as "Don't understand the hate, I'm having a blast". Fucking retire already.
I think he might have brain damage for thinking the combat is fun.
Also he would be relentless towards the game if it wasn't a rpg made by and for faggots

The combat is pretty much the only thing people universally like about the game, so this isn't surprising. It's his shit taste in games and openly wanting to set a low bar of expectations that's disgusting here.

Considering how lame and retarded Yahtzee is, I am not surprised. This is a perfect game for him, it just about matches up with his expectations from all the niggerfaggots to pretentious dialogue that ends up meaning nothing to your average player.
At least it wasn't made by a BIGOT like JK Rowling, despite that game being similar open world slop!
I thought for a while now he was losing his edge, I think joining SW has sped that up a bit. But this has definitely confirmed it for me if this game released 10 years ago he would rip it to shreds. tut does anyone know any good game critics?

His job was to be critical. If you were thinking about buying a game you'd watch 0 punctuation to see what the flaws were. Famously there was only two games he didn't critique undertale and portal. It was part of his brand he even got criticism in his early career for being too harsh on games, and even slammed some games that would be considered classics today. But over the years he's just become more and more soft. Just so disappointing the one thing this industry does not need is another noncritical reviewer. He used to be a breath of fresh air if a game was too positively reviewed.

Since when was Yahtzee a good game critic to begin with? The fucker was always shit at this, hence why he tried to brand himself mo a comedian.

It's not SW, it's being around that faggot Nick. Ever since he was fired from Escapist, I'm sorry "quit in solidarity" with the other fuckups, he's been Nick's pet ever since and that did indeed make things worse.

People were willing to overlook that as long as he was actually funny. He isn't anymore.

Makes you wonder whether he lurks this thread or maybe there was some backlash from his garbage Avowed "review". Either way, ironman on fucking easy difficulty is pathetic.
This is so horrifically lame holy shit. At least a Nuzlocke can fuck you with random crits, it might as well be couple of hours of the starting tram ride

I never understood how in gaming it became such a trend to talk on how good it is for media to be made disposable because "don't have time to get food/invested". If you outgrew the hobby then do the noble thing and quit.

He had a shit taste but more often than not his criticisms were justified. But what changed is that there is no more material. Or more exactly, AAA are all the same while touching Indie/Nintendo is asking to be cancelled.

The combat is the only fun thing about the game

lmao this guy is stuck in 2010 but this feels very petty. whats his moviebob logic? i remember he said mario is better because it's blander years back
How Sonic started sucking moment it added Shadow and Rouge and trying to tell a more mature story, thus the franchise began to suck. While Mario remained aimed at kids, thus still being cool, awesone and popular

i know he doesnt read his comments but this thing is weird that he is still going with his narrative when EVERYONE shat on his SxSG review for essentially him saying "where's the /sneed? where's the reddit humor? why dont people tell Shadow so that happened when he broods?" and people said "well at the end he recants all that" but guess he didnt

It's also a very unfalsifiable narrative almost, because maturity is in the eye of the beholder. He believes SA1 was good if i remember and that was the start of more mature storytelling. Hell you could argue Sonic 3 and CD set the groundwork by including cutscenes and the idea of bad endings if you did poorly, with edgy imagery in the bad future. With SA2B it goes to show how he essentially weirdly is disconnected with the audience of Sonic - kids and teens - by trying to tastemake for them

Sonic Adventure 2 was THE Sonic game that launched the series from being a fad into a fandom. Shadow is beloved by 99 percent of the target audience, especially kids, and just put out a highly critically and commercially successful movie which is a two hour version of Sonic Adventure 2. Yahtzee also praises tons of games like Night in the Woods, Undertale, Cave Story, he'd probably even like Goodbye Volcano High, for using colorful cartoon characters and animals to tell "mature" stories

But again, those stories have reddit humor and forced attempts at pixar emotions so he thinks of that as "artsy" and because he thinks if he can pretend to be Ebert he can be respected he praises that not on its merits but because it signifies his status as art critic

Mature story hahaha. I like sonic but i don't think any sonic fan would call it mature. It's as mature as a 4kids anime on in the morning before school.

"Dark" is the more appropriate word. Anyone saying "Mature" is only saying it because of Shadow using guns and shooting things, but even then, it's more "edgey" than "mature"
