Hard to know who released their video first, but Sam has always taken a long time to edit and release videos so his was most likely filmed first. It seems like one of those situations where several people have the same idea at the same time, because Kickstarter was getting so popular and it was overrun with crap. I don't think either of them necessarily stole it from the other.

I'm having a hard time finding it but I swear Ian got invited to one podcast around maybe 2018 where the hosts asked him if he had any videos he regretted making, and Ian said he regretted the Dark Skyes video because he thought it was a genuine, cringey mlp project, and was so ashamed over taking the bait that he took the video down. I remember it very clearly and I'll post it here if I find it. Unless I'm making it up, why would he lie about that? Admitting he got punked is less embarrassing than what he pulled in the docu, and I don't mean that the copyright strike story is more embarrassing, just the way he framed it making himself look weak and petty. Or maybe what he said in the pod was the lie, if I'm not just misremembering.
Sam was the one who got punked by bronies, wasn't talking about Ian there. There were several videos of Sam begging /mlp/ not to out his Kickstarter as a fake. As I said, I don't think it would have helped Ian so much, since Hyde isn't Mr. Jomha and isn't going to let being embarrassed a decade ago live rent free in his head like that.

Yeah I don't agree with people saying there was no genuine friendship there. Maybe it's not as pure and wholesome as I want to believe, but to me his ticks going haywire makes me think there was some real emotion there.
