Careercow Brandon "Bam" Margera - From Jackass to Lolcow

Ed Furlong never had a chance, if I recall correctly he was living in a group home when Hollywood found him and he didn't have a single family member or any sort of advocate for his own rights while he was being drowned in cash from T2
Yup and then he got raped both financially and physically from his manager. He does look better lately now and is getting roles again.

Sounds like a retelling of River Phoenix and Corey Feldman. Predictably, lads in their position get victimised, and or fucked up.

And one last backhanded compliment Bam is actually a more impressive skater today than he was in his heyday. It was @Rogowski who pointed out that Bam was never a real “Pro Skater”, I had no idea how bad mediocre he was. Most of his tape segment in THPS3 is him just falling on his ass and doing a few decent tricks.
If memory serves correct, and in Bam's defence, I think he's always been very realistic about his (lack of) skating abilities. As with Steve-o, the stupid stunts were a means to distract from them being crap skaters.

You’re right about that but during Bam’s 2020s meltdown he would have the occasional rants about how Johnny Knoxville was being a scumbag for selling skate decks. In the mind of Bam only Pro Skaters who get signed have any right to sell Skateboard gear. Knoxville and Dickhouse were essentially stealing from him and real pros!

Regardless that Bam still has any skill after all the hell he’s put his body thru is amazing.

The modern skating scene is insane. I’ll spend the occasional weekend watching random parts from Thrasher and will be blown away. Despite how impressive things are, I’m more amused watching Bam skate in earnest. Dude is trying very hard, and is getting results.
I'm an oldfag as far as the skate scene is concerned these days, but I can't even fathom the shit these kids pull off. Didn't one of them manage a vert 1080 a couple years back?

I'll say this, Bamuel was a real sponsored skater at one time but when it came time to hone his skills to reach the next level and actually break new ground he instead took easy way out forHollywood fame and his skating became nonexistent after that.

He is skating decently now and I'm cautiously optimistic about his future. Tony wouldn't be entertaining his shit at all if he was off the deep end so that's promising but all it takes is one bad phone call with his parents or with Nikki and all that progress he's made will be gone in an instant.

Without power leveling too hard I will say that one of the hardest things about being an insufferable addict is even after you get it together your friends and family will never look at you the same and will probably always be slightly untrusting

They got that ski ramp setup these days which will vault you a million miles into the air. Kids have been doing something like 1440s for a while now. Nobody’s cracked a 1080 on an even half pipe to my knowledge though

Aha, I thought it was halfpipe. The old ski ramp setup has been around since the late 90s IIRC. Think Burnquist used to have one on his property, even.

What is it about the men in his family? His uncle was a mess, too.
All 3 on his dad's side, Vito, Jailbird Pat and pcp addict Kevin, his aunt Boof was crazy but a real sweetheart same with mom mom, hell I feel like it's only Phil and pop pop who were reletively normal 😂

Edit to add, Mom mom, boof, Pat and pop pop have all passed away in the past few years along with Vito

While I never was a good skater, I'd do anything to have a coffee with Rodney (GOAT) Mullen.
With all due respect to his status as practically the man who invented street skateboarding, or at least invented the tricks to due so, every interview I’ve ever seen of him has him answering straightforward questions like he’s trying to explain the meaning of life through the context of the inner workings of a black hole, like he’s the Dalai Lama. A cup of coffee with the man would be exhausting.

Rodney is a wacko. You are correct when it comes to his long winded, fart huffing explanations. Just shut the fuck up dude and do your flat ground pogos without trying to compare it to splitting the atom.

I checked out some of Rodney’s interviews based upon the discussion in the thread. While I will agree that some of the bits I watched were a bit far fetched for me, I admire the dude’s passion. Dude dedicated his life to his craft and clearly cares deeply about it. I can’t hate on that.

My guy, Chad Muska, also gets really philosophical when discussing skating (and life in general). Maybe there’s just something about these old street skaters.

There’s passion, and there’s thinking you’re a modern day philosopher by giving off a “live, laugh, love.” for Hot Topic kids.

Muska basically lived on Venice Beach homeless since he was a kid, so he was going to be a total surf bro no matter what

King of The Chadilac Muskalade. He got chewed up and spit out by the Calabasas West Coast nepo baby crowd and thinks he is some artsy fartsy boy.

Something about that generation of mid to late 90s skaters becoming weird faggoty leftist blow hards. Berra, Koston, etc.
That’s a late Gen X thing in general. There’s a bunch of them that get a bad case of troll’s remorse and are now insufferable shitlibs. Which isn’t to say they were trolls but many “rebels” from late Generation X have become this way.
