It is literally a bunch of periods. Not even heavier ones. If an IVF embryo doesn’t successfully implant, you just have your normal period. The same thing happens all the time when conception happens the old fashioned way, but without the awareness anything even happened — You just get your period instead of being pregnant, even though the egg got fertilized.

No one calls them miscarriages because that’s insane. It’s disappointing (and expensive) to find out a round of IVF didn’t work, but it’s not a goddamn miscarriage by any definition.

Having a memorial stone for a bunch of periods, if said stone actually exists, is incredibly overdramatic.

For reference, this is what a day 5 blastocyst (the thing that gets implanted during IVF) looks like. Unless you’re a fundie and believe life begins at conception, it is not a person by any stretch of the imagination.
