Here's a interesting question.
If you were in charge of the DNC, what would you do to try to win 2028? do you stick with Moderates? lean harder into the left?
Probably kill myself because it's a completely impossible situation.
They need to moderate the party but the problem is that they also need to differentiate themselves from the MAGA party. That's an issue because MAGA is 90s democrats with a couple tweaks, meaning if they just moderate themselves there is nothing to set them apart.
I guess I would pick a few things to focus on.
- Push for a flat tax across all brackets but sell it as "removing loopholes the rich take advantage of and the poor don't have access to resources to find" (Trump did this previously but isn't focusing on it now, so it's open)
- Focus on renegotiating trade with other countries but in a way that's kind and fair to our allies in Europe, Canada, and Mexico. End the harsh tariffs in favor of "bringing everyone to the table" and "finding ways to figure out something that will benefit both American citizens and our neighbors in the north"
- Push for easier visas for agriculture work that currently illegal immigrants working on farms can access without risk of deportation so long as they have no criminal record. Frame it as "getting them away from the heel of farmers who take advantage of them and don't pay them a fair wage or benefits they deserve"
- Push for H1B visa reform to make it so they can switch employers, get rid of the lottery system in favor of merit, and get rid of fraud. Sell this as "No longer allowing corporations to hold the threat of deportation over their workers heads, and allowing merit to determine who has a fair chance to work in this country not random chance". Also add additional oversight to H1B to make sure that those who get in are "guaranteed a fair market rate for their work" and aren't just picked because of the cheapness so corporations can "undercut domestic workers".
- Push for ethical reform of farms to best benefit the planet through regenerative agriculture, and make sure smaller farms aren't unfairly taken advantage of. Everyone knows most regulations benefit the big corporate farms and not every day small family farms in the US. Remove the requirement for USDA slaughterhouses in favor of regulated private slaughterhouses that will "guarantee the ethical slaughter of animals and greater access for small farms across America". Push back against Chinese owned farms (again highlighting it's all one corporation that owns the). Further emphasizing by having a good split of large, medium, and small farms the farming industry can be more resilient and innovative in the face of issues like bird flu.
- Troons can transition as adults but it's off the table for children. Push for more research into trans adults and regulations and standards for transition surgery and hormones to guarantee "our trans neighbors and family are safe if they decide it is the path for them". Point out the high complication rate of trans surgeries and the total lack of standards. "We need to do better. This community is being taken advantage of by predatory surgeons who ghost the patient even when they are scared due to pain or improper healing".
-Push for America to be the innovator in green energy. American made solar, electric vehicles, and nuclear. Only under our oversight can we guarantee that they are made in ways that are fair and ethical.
- Same for textiles, point out continued issues with sweatshops and how America can set the standard for ethical practices and provide textiles that are made by workers paid a fair wage in safe environments
There would have to be a few other things, but those are at least some that come to mind that are more moderate and somewhat stand out.
Which isn't to say I agree with them, but I could see them plausibly being run against MAGA.
