ArticleWriter and Zacharin X's sentiments about the state of Troonworld's map-making shenanigans are the same as mine as I don't know what else to contribute as they already articulated it enough.

You know your map-making skills suck so hard when other mappers from DBP / ModDB / other Doom map hosting sites are doing a better job than the current clowns from Troonworld.

These people want to put such useless gimmicks in their projects that they forgot to "keep it simple, stupid."

I stand corrected then. I knew he did that interview but I didn't want to sit through it.

I agree on all counts, Dario is old enough to play Doom when it was the latest and greatest, made content for it, and managed to make it in industry due to his Doom and Quake experience, not mention was working for Valve longer than some of the younger Doomworld troons have been alive.

I wouldn't call map making a talent, I would call it critical thinking. You have to put yourself in the player and understand what is fun. These guys are so self-absorbed they can't accept having an arena of 1000+ Cacodemons isn't fun and they're shit mappers for doing so.

True, but that's the thing... some mappers will be better at it than others, because they'll have the talent for critical thinking. There's also creativity - the ability to come up with fresh ideas for new maps, layouts, combat designs and so on. Mapping is easy, if we're talking about just making a map that is playable, but good level design is not easy and requires talent. I personally, don't consider myself talented, because i struggle with creativity. Still, that doesn't kill my enjoyment of mapping, because i like trying. Ironically, i haven't made anything in half a year.

@ArticleWriter check out this map's riveting gameplay, from one of DoomGappy's idiot friends. Also, the video uploader describes it as "excellent stuff"... The first one is the Map09 of this short episode, with the gameplay being described by the author as "frantic".

Just because I can, I downloaded that piece of shit, went into map 9, and 100 percented it on Ultra Violence with no issue. That thing claiming there is no way for it to max it is something more than retarded. Went a bit further and did it with fast monsters on, took me a few attempts due to being rusty, but did it with no saving.

I haven't paid attention to the other maps, i just wanted to point out how retarded Map09 is, and how delusional the guy who recorded the video is for saying it's "excellent". I too sometime put myself through retarded map sets... i get no enjoyment out of them, but it is a good learning experience as a mapper.

Definitely too much health, I can tank the majority of hits and make it through. Fighting one enemy at a time is too easy. Only part that does get sketchy is when the two archviles come out, but being given a megasphere removes some difficulty. If you get the BFG, it makes trivial. Only played that one map. Should say too, I am not the best player, and most of my experience is in Doom 1 and 2, haven't delved much into user maps.

Another great point that was brought up on Doomer Boards. It's just crazy how bad Doomworld has become. It just gets worse and worse each year.

At this point, I won't be surprised if these people are running a pedophile ring on the side. Given that these people look and act like rejects from society for a good reason, it's a possibility.
 
Since we recently talked about the state of "modern" community projects, i realized i barely check the CP development on Troonworld anymore, because it has its own separate section, and i'm just used to clicking on the wad releases instead. Today i did check the CP development forum, and as expected, immediately witnessed a few gems of unoriginality:

- The Plutonia Experiment: Tetrodotoxin - From the OP, "A full 33-map megawad based on The Plutonia Experiment, but like 20 times harder." You just know it's some retarded kid behind it, when you see terms like "20 times harder".

- Ultimate Doom Facelift - How many of these original IWAD fucking facelifts do we need? It's 2025 for fuck's sake - stop "remastering" the originals! It still has around 10 open slots, despite it being started in November. The main rule of this one is "to simply improve the visuals of episodes 1-4". So basically yet another CP that just copies the IWADs, adds some more unnecessary detail to them and has nothing new to show for. The Amalgoom/Tribute Quilt retards will love this one, i'm surprised they haven't hijacked it yet.

- Second Mix! Combine your favorite classic maps! - Here we go again - more copying. This one only has 2-3 empty slots, surprisingly. The thread seems to be well put together, which proves the point that you can have a shit idea, but if you manage it well, you'll get your slots filled. So much for the stupid notion that full megawads are the death of CPs.

- 7 Sectors - I guess the failed 30 sectors wasn't enough of wake-up call to some people... or was it? I don't know, this lunatic doesn't seem to keep track of the filled slots, so i can't tell. What is funny, the guy who posts the development thread is not the actual CP lead. He's just his lackey. And no, the actual lead is not banned. Take a look at these rules too:

The rule of 7 Sectors are simple.
No more than 7 sectors per level, total.
No more than 7 wall textures per level, total.
No more than 7 floor/roof flats per level, total.
No more than 7 monster types per level, total.
No more than 7 Hours build time... (Will have to get Loathar to clarify if that's per level, or total) *The moron who posts the thread is not even sure about the guidelines and has to double-check with his boss.

Oh and check out this quote, "We don't currently have a deadline..."
There you go... for everyone who's been a victim of mapping for a failed CP, this should be the dead giveaway that this fucking thing will never be made. Better jump ship now. Also, the example map is an absolute turd.

- Embryo: Where each map is smaller than the last - @ArticleWriter actually mentioned this one, and i guess i can talk about it now. Speaking of being a victim of a failed CP... this fucking thing was started in August of 2023, with the initial deadline for February 2024. Keep in mind this is a CP of mostly small maps, everything past slot 10 is small and it gets progressively smaller. It's also from an experienced project lead, Moustachio, who unfortunately completely dropped the ball, because he can't bring himself to release the damn thing with a few missing maps. The original deadline wasn't kept, and got pushed to May or June of 2024. Here we are more than 13 months after the original deadline, more than year and a half since the beginning of the project, and the fucking thing is still in limbo. Do you want to know when i submitted my map for this disaster? September 1, 2023.

- DOOM 2 MINUS DOOM - This one actually got made and released... good for them. Unfortunately, it's yet another stupid idea of "creative restriction". It's basically Doom 2 maps, minus the single barrel shotgun and without the Doom 1 monsters (yes, all of them). I can't begin to describe how stupid this is. People who don't understand how essential the Doom 1 low level monsters are for creating fun, run and gun, gameplay, have no business making maps.

- miniwad MEGAWAD - Vanilla community project for miniwad - This one is so autistic, it has 25 open slots despite it starting in August. And i quote, "What's the smallest a Doom IWAD can be while still being vaguely playable? An exercise in minimalism.
The result is a WAD file less than a quarter of a megabyte that can in theory be used to play any WAD from the idgames archive."
