Troonslop "Retro" Games / Demake games / PS1 Trannies / ULTRAKILL / Y2K trannies - Retro gaming is infected

That's the sad part. PS1 graphics are really interesting to look at. I love old style game graphics as they always bring a sense of something in me, something unusual and otherworldly. Not trying to look deep into it, of course. But it's a style I like, and these people thought such a style would be something super quirky and "unique" to make instead of trying to work with their own styles or add something subversive with the PS1 style. They all think being "so retro" with their game will make it more interesting. Thinking that alone already makes your game less interesting.
I feel that too. I've always thought the low-poly aesthetic can look really cool if done right. It's weird to see how the PS1-style is basically becoming the pixel artstyle of the next generation. There's a lot of amazing sprite work done on games for the SNES and Genesis (heck even the PS1 had some good pixel art as well). There's also been a lot of good indie games that have used pixel art as well. One that comes to mind is Pizza Tower even though I would argue that's more of an "MS Paint" style of graphics, but it still shows that it's possible to make a fun game that's still visually interesting even with "old" graphics.

Eventually this style of low-poly 3D modeling will run into the same problem pixel art did, if it hasn't already, where people will get so tired of seeing it because of how much slop has been made using that aesthetic that the only way to breakout of being pre-labeled as "bad" would be to make the game super interesting or do something different with the visuals. It's honestly ironic that indie devs will use an artstyle they think would be easy to make only to find out it's actually the most complicated to work with if they want to make a hit.

Having to deal with severely limited resources (compared to today), and having the graphics look aesthetically pleasing at the same time is a real challenge. Game developers could not afford to be too lazy.

To some developers' credit, some do actually try to target the hardware of old game consoles, including the Playstation 1.

Gonna break up the usual retro troonery and post an actual PS1 game with some true substance and atmosphere.
GERMS: The Targeted Town (1999)
This was a Japanese only release title that features a very uneasy, oppressive, open world setting the moment you step out and start playing. The world is greyed out, human models feature realistic faces plastered onto polygons while also having faceless humans as your enemies, the music is very off-kiltered; very liminal and often times feature percussive banging not really following a rhythmic pattern. The story, I'll be frank, I have no clue what's going on but you can tell just from the presentation follows a similar setting to something like Twin Peaks; aliens have invaded a town and are disguised as humans to follow through with their plan, leaving a very uncanny feeling throughout your exploration.
It's very easy to make comparisons to LSD: Dream Emulator, but while that game is just pure atmosphere and weird shit for you to experience the more you explore, GERMS has an actual story going on while you experience the weird shit that unfolds.

As a Japanese only release, there wasn't a English translation for the longest time until a user named Grundo1561 took it upon himself to translate it based off a Spanish translation from another user you can get here: https://romhackplaza.org/translations/germs-nerawareta-machi-english-translation-playstation/
It's not very good, but I feel like the broken, disjointed English honestly fits the overall feeling of the game more than if it was translated smoothly.

Give this a go if this sounds interesting to you rather than the drivel that any of these troon devs wish to accomplish the same sense of dread these games give.

I don't have adult content filtered out on Steam so every once in a while it'll recommend mature or X-rated stuff to me, especially if it hasn't released yet and has a "Coming Soon" page on the platform. Anyways, the game that was shown to me was called Slime Feet. It was created by a man (troon of course) calling himself Nadia Nova, and he only has two releases on Steam but several more on itch.io, including this particular game where it is playable there. The guy's itch.io account is filled with depraved shit like this, but since releasing something on Steam costs a hundred bucks I guess he only posts what he considers his "best" work there.
Oh, this awful guy! I posted about him before but never explored his work. I would only suggest you do it if you have a strong stomach for shitty porn, I don't want you to scar yourself for life over him. He might be worth looking at if he's bad enough that more than one Kiwi stopped and looked at his crap.

I HATE THE PS1 DEMAKES WITH TRANNY SYMBOLISM BASED ON MODERN GAME ENGINES! I HATE THE PS1 DEMAKES WITH TRANNY SYMBOLISM BASED ON MODERN GAME ENGINES! I HATE THE PS1 DEMAKES WITH TRANNY SYMBOLISM BASED ON MODERN GAME ENGINES! monkey-cymbals.gif

Literally Project Zomboid. It's unplayable without mods because the devs are dumb to never add basic things like prying-open doors with crowbars
I was talking about PZ in the "Unpopular Gaming Opinions" thread a few days ago, and one thing I absolutely hated about the unstable builds that they released around December of last year was the fact that they have this INSANELY retarded philosophy hate boner for firearms, and they made the firearms waaaay fucking worse in the initial build they showed off. PZ will try to ruin the only fun aspect of their game and refuse to do anything else that's actually decent.

cric was right on the money on everything.

I wonder if future troons will start trying to replicate the aesthetic of mid-to-late 2000's games, i.e Half-Life, Halo, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., the works, maybe it'll be too hard for them since it requires more effort than just low poly models, low quality textures, and zero antialiasing all the while requiring a GTX 1070. STALKER is especially a sore spot for me since the new game is just generic ubisoft slop, and of course on UE5 so it looks like every other dime-a-dozen modern shooter.

if it requires actual effort, no way. i can see some dedicated ones try but xey are more likely to stall work forever while begging for moar money to make xeir trans non-binary neurodivergent fps dream project come true. i keep finding plenty epicsauce gifs of supposed gameplay but next to no demos or videos/blogs about development from many a indie

Aspect of that era I miss most is when people would just use literal, minimally edited real life photographs for textures. I dunno, I could see aping certain aspects of the early 2000 aesthetic being low effort but it'd be much harder to have the whole cohesive package as you need to be a little multidisciplinary.

Hopefully there won't be "future troons" as transgenderism (and other aspects of the sexual revolution that came before it) are discredited and fewer children are being groomed via EPI or other means.

:optimistic:

It's going to retreat from the mainstream but continue to be a thing online. It's already almost 2 completely seperate groups as half of the online ones have zero interest in transitioning IRL or being trans outside of VRChat and Discord DMs with kitten. At least way less people will get sterilized that way.

So, back on Ultrakill, reading on TV tropes seemly, God is dead, but also he spent some time trying to kill himself, but was unable to? Like, what is this mess?

After sending Lucifer to Hell in the 5-S Testament, the 7-S Testament describes how God has become utterly stricken with grief, unable to handle the weight of his mistakes, and began "to seek the end of [his] days". As someone who is almost The Omnipotent, suicide is extremely difficult to successfully do in any way.
"BUT WHEN I STARED INTO THE ABYSS... THE ABYSS AVERTED ITS GAZE."

They're only copying the athetic mostly because it looks timeless and (the one that to me is the most plausible) it's easier to do. Make a lowpoly model, texture it and not care that much about how it looks because you have an easy excuse of it looks like PS1 so it's supposed to look bad right?

The logistics of how God works in this game are kind of nonsensical
So from what I got is this:
God creates humanity, but he is incapable of making humans without free will, so he makes Hell and throws Lucifer there for asking how eternal punishment can be fair.
Them, he feels bad about it, cant unmake hell and just somehow dies.
Latter, Hell influences mankind to make the machines, humans go extinct and machines invade Hell, where they can do what God cant and just outright erase parts of it.
Its weird, to say the least

Another thing worth mentioning about the mythos is that it's distinctly not Christianity. The crosses and cross symbolism throughout the game are related to God the Father, there is no Jesus in Ultrakill.

The overall message is still "god bad" and it still pulls a lot from Christian aesthetics, but surprisingly they didn't go the cheap route of "dae Christianity is... le bad?" which is interesting to me
