On a totally unrelated note, did you know that more than 60% of employees at Walmart, the largest private employer on earth, are on food stamps?

While it's known that walmart is beyond scummy and does push its own employees into being dependent on purchasing from their own store, every single person in this thread acting like it's 'torture' to eat cheap gives me the impression they never once had to do so. They seem to have this idea in their heads that what they get to have is some Oliver Twist colorless gruel, when in reality with a few dollars on some simple greens and meats you can make damn near anything you please. I say this as somebody who's had to live on unemployment and make every cent count.

Food stamps don't work in many homes. Mum just trades them for cash at 50c on the dollar. The food parcels that the government sends are far more effective.

The pop on EBT thing is just a scam in the sense that people will buy 2 liters and then "sell" them to Indian run gas stations for 50 cents on the dollar.
