Assassin's Creed thread

You know, "strange buzzing insects" sums up people who shill this game pretty well. For example, our friend "super gamer 1234" or whatever from a few pages back.
Where I'm from, we call paid shill and propagandist as buzzers precisely because of that, they swarm around and made a hell of noises like a bunch of flies
Also because they have no honor

People got really, really mad about them bending some facts about an obscure nigger in Japan
Bro you are really understating the creative liberties they took.
it would be a fucking earthquake of anger if they made a single Nazi sympathetic, cool, or anything resembling a "good guy".
Is there a risk for that? Assassin's Creed never really humanizes it's villains or made you the guards you can slaughter seem like anything more than goons.
WW2 means they have to villainize Japan or America - which is almost certainly a no-go to investors. Almost doubly so after this release.
They already wiped their ass with Japan's history so I don't think they can make them any more mad, and IDK why America needs to be vilified.
the Assassin is a spy who's inside enemy territory (possibly even a German American moving up the ranks in the Axis Army) instead of coming up with some contrived reason that the Assassin would be landing on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day.
That setup mechanically would be difficult because AC is an open world game and the army isn't cool with their soldiers just running around killing their own men and it would be even more of a cultural minefield because your character will have to interact with soldiers in a friendly manner which would humanize them and your character would need to follow some unsavory orders if he wants to keep his cover.

Ubisoft could just make a game about an assassin French resistance fighter and muck up their own history instead.

I see where he is coming from. Protraying WW2 puts you in a weird spot because the templars operate on subterfuge, so how do you address the nazis as being controlled by a secret cabal of people WORSE than the nazis? Obviously you can't. So then who are the templars secretly controlling in ww2? Your options are the soviets, the western powers, or japan. They just blew their load on japan, so that's probably out, and in 2024 PutinBadMan so sympathetic Russians are out.

Who is left?

I'd really only pay attention for a mesoamerican assassins creed just for the aesthetics, but the story would be exactly the same as Shadows (the bad guys are the iberians!)

They never generally humanize them - but they are presented as powerful, cool, and respected. Every* kill in Assassin's Creed on a villain results in a several minute long cutscene where the villain gets a closing monologue. Imagine that if it was fucking Hitler, Goring, or Mengele was given anything that resembled positive treatment during one of their encounters.

Goring in particular would have an amazing one (if Ubisoft had balls) - "I'm just a soldier following orders - I should be punished for where I was born? Is that the difference between us, Assassin? Do you get to not follow orders in your order - or would that get you killed?".

There's also the real messy issue of WW2 more or less ending with dropping of Nuclear bombs, a really touch subject that even gets skirted in Japanese copies of Fallout 3. Having that (or the Holocaust) be turned into a video game device is going to ruffle some feathers regardless of how delicately they handle it (and with this writing team, they won't).

I'm not. Just pointing out that Yasuke is some historically irrelevant nigger - and not one of the most famous people to ever live (as opposed to say, Hitler or Churchill). If people were that mad about, basically, "some guy" - people are going to be much madder about a more significant person.

Let me take a crack at it:

US/UK = Templars
Free France/French Reaistance = Assassins
Germany = Radical Templars (Just have Hitler and his inner circle be Templars who broke off to use the Eden mcguffins for their own ends)
Rest of the Axis = Templars who side with the Nazi Radicals
SS = Radical Assassins
Russians = Independent (The Assassin backed revolution toppled the Templar backed Czar. Stalin purges was in part him removing any Assassin influence)

Honestly having a storyline about how WW2 (or 1) was such a clusterfuck that the Assassins and Templars team up into their own little subtractions would be pretty cool twist on the two secret organizations locked in am endless shadow war.

All the data we have says otherwise and Ubisoft suspiciously won't release any of theirs. This means they're lying, this game is doing terribly and there is no way it's doing better than AC at it's peak, back when the franchise was actually successful.
Yup. If they had substantial sales figures, they'd be shouting them from the mountain tops. As it turns out, if you're experiencing a major success, it's usually pretty obvious and you don't actually need to lie about anything (or be "cheeky" or "coy" about it).

It is very telling they're only talking about "player count" and haven't said one fucking word about "sales." If sales were great, they'd be saying so. They're not, so they're avoiding the topic entirely.

Are they even allowed to lie?
To the public? Certainly! To investors? Not technically, though they can certainly spin the truth in a blender of buzzwords and corpo-speak until investors can't make heads or tails of it, and as someone already pointed out, by the time people figure that kind of subterfuge out, the company (or its corpse) will be in someone else's hands and the execs will be out on their new yachts.

PS5 mostly. I think they make up 50% of the playerbase for the previous AC titles, and with Steam back into the mix, I'd say the combined PC sales are around 25%. Considering how the current player numbers are, esh.
Now that's a believable percentage for the franchise. Doesn't change that the numbers would still be total shit though. It'll probably see some bumps along its decline for things like a DLC release, and the inevitable 30% off within the first 3 months sale but neither of those are going to amount to selling millions of copies.

His first post about it was him congratulating its sales numbers.

And there's a Dexerto clickbait article written by James Busby. Leftists are calling this a celebration.

Ackshully the secret files you could find in AC 2, state that Stalin and Hitler were Templars, but Ubisoft themselves probably don't remember this fact, and I like your idea better.

The best franchise for Mesoamerica (aside from the complete lack of parkour, I'll admit that) may have been if Far Cry: Primal had become the starting point of a spinoff franchise of barbarian-themed games instead of a (barely) cult classic. It had very good gameplay involving battling man and nature (in a way that actually made sense thematically) with weapons like clubs, spears, slings and bows and arrows. At the time I thought that the vibe of it fit well with Apocalypto and it could have been easily spun off into settings like Mesoamerica, the American Indians and Polynesia.

I mean, if Templars kill seventy bajillion kikes between Hitler and Stalin, are they REALLY the bad guys here?

I am genuinely surprised we don't have more caveman games, and am disgusted that Far Cry is currently the best one I can think of

It was, lmfao
Not even the shilling the game gets is new or original
It was the same exact shilling they gave Veilguard too. They shilled it as a "return to form" for Dragon Age.
I read articles claiming it has higher player counts than successful previous entries in the series, so it doesn't sound like it flopped, sadly. Between that and the 2 million player count it can't be too bad.
The last game to release Day 1 on Steam was Odyssey and that came out in 2018. That was right when the massive migration of players from consoles started to gain momentum and Steam has grown enormously in that 7 years, so any comparison isn't worth doing. Especially when you consider that this game most certainly had a substantially larger budget and had to offset all the damage done to the company by Star Wars Outlaws, Skull & Bones, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. What Ubisoft needed was this to go gangbusters but its looking like it might lose money.
He was right. As for WW2, I believe we got a glimpse of it in AC Unity.
We also got a longer section in Syndicate where we got to play as Lydia Frye (Jacob's granddaughter) during WW2 as she takes down German spy bases throughout London like in the Tower Bridge.

A more fun, and actually novel, take would have been to play as two protagonists - a Templar samurai out to avenge Nobunaga, and to ensure his dream of a unified Japan came to fruition, and an Assassin ninja attempting to sabotage the Templar plot, and then use that to explore the differing philosophies and ramifications of their beliefs.
That would be great. I loved the way GTA V used character switching and having the characters be on opposite sides of it would be fascinating.

You could even have it be inside Germany and have a few of the more famous towns - but then you'd have to portray a really difficult setting (enemy civilians who are living their lives).
Na, set it in neutral Switzerland, which because of its status as neutral power wound up being a hotbed of intrigue and spying for all parties. Could easily be an Assassin going after German money laundering attempts and industrial connections, since the Swiss were also sizeable providers of much-needed precision machine goods.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Switzerland#World_Wars_(1914–1945)

Could easily tick all of the boxes there, including the Holocaust, Jew gold, etc.

SmashJT being a dumb grifter again. Asmongold laughed at Yasuke Similator being higher than ACS on the twitch page so SmashJT has to make an 11 minute video about it claiming that the game was more popular.

The reality is, it was just someone obviously viewbotting it for the lulz.
