WIC is a different program that most EBT recipients don't even qualify for. It was designed to subsidize dairy and agricultural products (like corn), keeping milk, cereal, and juice prices high. It's farm welfare disguised as aid to the poor, and Archer Daniels Midland lobbies to keep it going so they can keep selling their excess corn, wheat, and dairy. That's why it's specifically limited to those products. You don't need a special subsidy to encourage people to buy more Cheetos and soda.

The grey area that people are complaining about is the legality of the invocation of the act. The act has only been enacted 3 times in history, the War of 1812 and World Wars 1 & 2. The argument against the act applying now is that the USA is not under any "declared war", verbiage used in the act itself, and the act has only ever been used at these times. The argument for the act applying is that "invasion/predatory incursion" are also listed as times the act can be used, which Trump has applied to immigrant crossing between the US and Mexico.

I believe the courts will have to clarify to what degree "invasion/predatory incursion" are legitimate precursors to the act.

I disagree. It's a known fact that sugary drinks like soda fatten you up. While it's one thing to tell people you can't buy it period, we're talking about the government telling you what you can do with the government's (your) money; which in this case is poisoning yourself with soda and similar sugary shit.

I hate the idea that because something is difficult or may cause people to be sad it shouldn't be done. Getting rid of fraud is one part of this, but limiting SNAP benefits to necessary items is the other and if the huge multinational corporations are also a part of this spiral of people living off of taxpayer funds then they should also adapt or die.

Once again, I am not for taking away SNAP in full as of now no matter what hyperbolic shitposts I may make, but it does need to be reorganized to do away with the amount of obvious misuse and just pure destruction that the poor do to themselves through taxpayer funds. Reorganizing SNAP to be more like WIC is something that we should try and I believe it would be beneficial to both the recipient and the taxpayer.
