Final Fantasy XIV - Kiwi Free Company

Don't get too comfortable with the writing looking even a little better, they still have time to fuck it up with something like
Wuk Lamat lecturing Calyx about how he's wrong to try to make people Endless in an attempt to escape infirmity and death, because if they're Endless how are they going to share food and learn about each other? (Never mind that we literally do that with Endless in Living Memory) Now she knows she's never been sickly like him nor is she a scientist interested in the potential of mankind, but she totally understands him now because she feels bad he's a digital canceraids patient. But he's still wrong because the other thing she knows from the rite of succession is sharing food and learning about each other are really really important. Even if this argument doesn't convince Calyx of anything it will somehow defeat him.
Search your feelings, you know they have the capacity to be this retarded.

Speaking of dumbing stuff down, I ended up in the Sunken Temple of Qarn because of a roulette. Not only the face blocks no longer leave their little platforms, they just sit in place so you don't have to kite them anymore, when you're fighting the first boss the game will tell you in giant letters in the middle of your screen that you've been doomed or the adds have spawned. They also reworked the last boss so at one point you're tethered and pulled to a prism pole and you need to dps that down, but the time window is very generous. This comes instead of that one bit where a prism is spawned in a black box and you get locked in with it. Thank you design team for fostering the habbit of not having to pay attention to mechanics in new players, why would that bite them in the ass later.

I would also complain about Syrcus Tower fostering the retarded notion that you can stack Stack Markers. The number of times I've been in a normal raid roulette with light party stacks and some absolute retard decides to drag their marker to the other one and then act shocked when they kill nearly the whole party.

Sycrus Tower should have been the first one reworked so that people can actually learn mechanics, not Qarn.

Damn. Qarn might have been my favorite dungeon in the game. Sad to see it ruined.

Azem's crystal can now create 23 helpers but they're all Wuk Lamat and they're invincible so if you die, they'll just solo the raid without you.
At the end of the 7.X storylines, the WoL dies and you have to play as Wuk Lamat for 8.0

FFXIV gets a whopping 6 people as a net playerbase for 8.0, its 1 coomer and his 5 alts making degenerate gposes

Funny as this would be, if you die in a Duty Support Duty you immediately get sent back to the start.
(Yes I know about the 3 trials using a slightly different system fuck off)

She owes me for carrying her stupid ass through her whole ascension so its about time she paid me back.

Just got done trialing for a static, we cleared Recollections Ex then went into FRU, got to second phase. @Welsh Catgirl Enjoyer so far TEA is harder than FRU, though I expect the difficulty to ramp up pretty quickly in the later phases. I suppose TEA is nice in that the majority of the difficulty is front-loaded so once you pass those hurdles it's somewhat easy sailing until Wormhole.

Brute Bomber lives in residential unit 9-11.

Lol.

Lmao even.
:suffering:
I remember seeing that and letting out an audible laugh. It’s funny when the Japanese accidentally put shit like that in their games.
So is the Warrior of Light more the main characteror still a sidekick this time? Because i'm not paying money to do something i can for free in other games
Yeah the WoL is more involved now. Sphene is also put more front and center which I don’t mind because she’s cute. Anyone over Wuk.

Wuk's production sounds very different post-Everkeep. Curious what Rich Evans thinks.

E: Also guessing that Shale is going to betray us at some point.

- Sphene's VA is really good. Wuk is still a fairly shitty performance overall but sounds less...singsongy. I don't know how to describe Wuk Lamat's cadence up til about now but it just this weird delivery that went up and down into different registers.

Granted now you can really hear the 'maleness' slip in.

I'm curious what Rich Evans has to say on the production end of things. Regardless, it is a really stark contrast between the two, made all the worse by the wide range Sphene's VA is capable of with the Simulant and 'Real' Sphene.
- The MSQ is continuing the trend of shooting itself in the foot. Troon Cat says something along the lines of 'There's no substitute for seeing things with your own eyes.' I agree, which is why it is so frustrating that we're being told so much shit that is happening off-screen. Some of it is fine (eg, we probably don't need to see Koana and Wuk agree that we need more Wuk Lamat) but other shit (like uncovering this Snow White coffin that contains the 'real Sphene') probably should've had a bit more involvement from the fucking player.
- This feels like segments of the MSQ saw rewrites. The exposition dump explaining how the game is going to be referring to the 3 Sphenes, for example, just feels really jank even when accounting for XIV's tendency for expo dumping. The end bit where the machines go crazy also feels like a rewrite. I have a feeling Wuk was initially positioned to be more prominent and instead they just jettisoned the character at every available opportunity.

There's other bits of dialogue here and there which seem to indicate a lack of oversight as some bits of dialogue seem off. EG,

"Say, if this Calyx is as brilliant a scientist as everyone says, could he have been the one who erased everyone's memories of Endless Sphene's death?"
Also
"This might not be important, but I found something interesting." Two seconds later: "Oh, I expected he intended for us to find the terminal."

- I think I complained about this before, but the forced nickname thing for Wuk Lamat is annoying and speaks to the earlier problems of with Dawntrail's writing where they try to take shortcuts in making us care about characters. I dunno if this is a Japanese honorifics/etiquette thing leaking through or what but it just comes off so hackneyed.
- Wuk continues being an idiot. Sphene: "I know that voice. Calyx, is that?" Wuk: "What?! You know this man!?"
- The game is stating and re-stating plot points over and over again right after they happened. This is something that was glaringly bad in 7.0 and is rearing its head again here. While I understand the average XIV player is a drooling sped, the amount of handholding to connect the dots on plot points is insulting to the people who aren't.
- The ongoing plot with Real Sphene/Queen of Reason is interesting and seems to be back to the general FFXIV level of 'acceptably bad' writing. It looks like they might be going the Blade Runner route with this story and Calyx is playing the role of Batty.
- There's a great moment of contrast which highlights why so many find Wuk Lamat obnoxious. Real Sphene is established as someone who went away for 400 years, isn't particularly useful at the moment, but knows the layout of the next dungeon we're going to. She has a practical fucking reason for accompanying us that came about fairly organically.

Meanwhile, Trooncat is not only coming along but is also barking orders at everyone, despite a character flat out pointing out that a rival leader sticking their dick hatchet wound into another country's sovereignty is not a great idea. Fucking why.

All in all it feels like the devs are responding to criticism about Troon Cat and given how big this fucking patch was, salvaging the MSQ was probably near the bottom of their list of priorities. 7.3 should be interesting.

I dunno if anyone else gets this, but I find real Sphene's performance a bit distracting because she kind of overlaps with Krile a bit, they both have that slightly wobbly, breathless cadence. It's noone's fault, I guess, and I don't think the original Endless Sphene performance had this issue because she (and the simulant) had a more confident tone of voice. After the dungeon I caught myself thinking "oh, Krile got a few more spoken lines this patch, that's nice" before realizing it was the new character.

You leave my female Elezen with a speaking role out of this. Probably, yeah.

My character has always had the massive pompadour haircut since ARR, I don't usually MT as a Gunbreaker but I feel obligated when I go into m5.

For people complaining about maintaining uptime during the dance mechanic, cry about it. We had an entire expac of boring raids because of cracked out melee DPS throwing a fit if they had to go a millisecond without watching their buttons cycling so every boss had to have a hitbox the size of a damn postal code. I get it, drift sucks with current job design but 100% uptime should be an optimised strat, not an expectation for clearing a fucking normal raid.
