I started reading Manacled a while ago, but dropped it around the eye-gouging scene. Not because I'm that squeamish, just at this point, after the attempted rape by that other Death Eater and Astoria attacking Hermione I realized this story is just going by every Stockholm syndrome fanfic cliche, and the fact Draco could read Hermione's thoughts at all times made their interactions just boring. I could never buy even the premise of original Handmaid's Tale (I'm not conservative, but yeah, the entire concept reeks of author's badly disguised fetish), much less it being transplanted into Harry Potter, and I've seen people who actually liked the story point out that the whole capes-and-bonnets thing being inserted there wholesale is jarring. And yea, I get that Hermione's agoraphobia is actually realistic, but holy shit, did it get annoying after a while.

kek, I don't know whether to respect the author for being this ballsy or lol at her inability to divorce this character from the original. At least "Anastasia Steele" didn't sound at all like "Bella Swan" nor did "Jace Herondale" sound like "Draco Malfoy" (in spirit, though...).

I don't read as much fanfiction as I used to, and I'm not very fond of AO3's UI, even though in some aspects it's definitely better than whatever string and chewing gum is holding FF.net together. AO3 is chock-full of absolutely vile sexual shit out in the open, including actual pedo stuff, and I get disgusted just by seeing the tags. Back in the day you could only find shit like that on AFF.net, if you even knew it existed.

More mind-numbingly bland and autistic than awful, but I found this author a while ago and still can't wrap my mind about it: https://www.fanfiction.net/u/6918563/Ro-Cel
TWO MILLION word fanfiction about a pair of OCs. No reviews, neither for this nor any of her earlier ones. 3 follows, maybe from people who were as bewildered by it as I am. I haven't seen anyone discussing it anywhere, even as a fanfiction curiosity. It's not listed among HP longest fanfics (even though it's definitely up there in top 10, from what I've gathered), nobody even flaming the author for shitting out absurdly long chapters of pretty much no plot.
I'm not saying one should write for comments, because God knows there are tons of bad and mediocre fanfics out there with depressingly unironic following, but at this point you might just as well not publish anything and focus on improving your writing.
If anyone's curious, there's literally nothing happening in this story. Just two female OCs, one of which is of course a transfer student from US and acts nothing like an 11-year-old when introduced in the first part (except not knowing what a period is). It's basically an endless parade of OCs and OOC canon characters talking, socializing and getting into endless relationship drama. It's like a Platonic ideal of a high school fanfic written by an American teenage girl. I'm not entirely sure what's going on there, since my eyes glazed over every time I looked at the dialogues and sex scenes. If not for the publishing date and writing mistakes I could believe it was written by some shitty AI.

I agree with most of it, but I actually think they will keep the "prior secret relationship" twist to redeem the High Reeve as secretly opposed to the bad king or something. I can also see them tweaking the plot to make the characters more proactive against the big bad, and make the happy ending less complicated, without them having to hide from society. My Predictions:
- The entire handmaid/repopulation element has been removed
- Hermoine/Helena will still be prisoner within the High Reeve’s manor, but as a “you can walk around freely but not leave” slave like Belle in Beauty and the Beast
- All the rape has been removed as a result of the repopulation plotline being dropped
- We will still have the story grind to a halt for the flashback dump but that it will be way shorter
- Hermoine/Helena will not have had a relationship to the High Reeve that she totally forgot
- Hermoine/Helena will get pregnant but it will be from her and the High Reeve falling in love and banging and not as the result of rape
- There will still be a big bad Voldemort/evil king figure
- Every member of the resistance still treats Hermoine/Helena like garbage
- Hermoine/Helena still forgives her abuser and they have their gross happy ending
